Am I perceiving correctly that there are differing schools of wedge play? If anyone can shed light on this, I'd be appreciative.

Both of these persons are correct....almost.

While either manner of shotmaking could be correct in certain situations, NEITHER is a do-all end-all method. You need to have BOTH of these shots in your bag. Don't fret...it's not a big deal to learn to hit both of those shots. And about the bounce factor: You can play either shot with a moderate bounce angle. I play both shots with a 12* bounce club regularly. It's REALLY not that difficult to learn. Just take some balls out in your yard and experiment.

Thank you. My guy is teaching me both, and more. I sometimes think he's made me learn the flop from the beginning because of what it can teach me longterm.

Understood. But that doesn't change the truth in my statement about bounce angles.

The suggestion was intended for those players who don’t practice, those who are already choosing clubs that give them shortcuts. And it’s just one club in their bags, not a whole set.

I personally wouldn’t even play golf if I couldn’t improve my game – heck, chili-dipping & blading shots around the green would have been enough to drive me away if I hadn’t worked that out, but the reality is that many golfers don’t approach the game this way. I can’t explain why that is – it just is. And the golf equipment industry thrives on it. Finally, discussion of game improvement clubs seemed allowable in a forum titled Equipment. Hopefully, readers of Swing Tips also have read your comments here. Or it might be a good thread to start in case they haven't.

    • Ah.. my regular weekend league. Lol Scrambles are fine. Usually there's charity involved. So there's that. There are much worse events Im forced to attend twice a year.
    • Does Justin Thomas have a massively underrated short game? It seems every time I look up he's hitting it close from a tough lie after short siding himself. What masterful touch
    • I freaking hate them. Too expensive, cheaters, food sucks, too dependent on weather, I keep telling myself never do it again but I'm a dummy
    • I enjoyed the A-B-C-D scramble we did at Kittyhawk before it shut down. Yes. The point was to meet the other members and get the season kicked off. Nobody took it too seriously. At least with that group, cheating wasn't a big issue.  As the D part of A-B-C-D, I enjoyed getting to play with one of the Association's top players. One year I played with the city champ. Man could he hit a ball.  It probably isn't something I'd want to do more than once a year, but it has its place.
