I recently bought a set of Nike Forged CCI irons with DG S300 shafts. I had been playing an old set of Mizuno TZoid Pro irons with stiff shafts. I figured the upgrade in technology would have added a bit of distance to my irons. It seems to have done the opposite, so I'm thinking I have a shaft issue. My swing speed is in the lower 100's and I had been hitting my irons fairly long (7 iron carry about 185-190). With my new irons, I'm struggling to hit my 7 iron 165. Any suggestions? Based on everything I've read, lack of distance usually corresponds to a shaft that is too stiff, but I've lost distance with the same shaft in a newer iron. I'm confused.

i play stiff shafted irons and a reg flex woods... for some reason i can sling my irons way more precise than my longer clubs...
i can absolutely lay into any iron in my bag and have it fly on the same line with just the difference in distance than if i take an easy swing...
my woods are a different story... if i go all out on my woods i get no consistancy at all... hence the lighter flex and the easier swing to maximize my distance and accuracy... if i got a stiff flex driver... i possibly could hit it farther... but id have no idea where it will end up... with the reg flex i dont have to worry about it cuz i hit way more fairways and thats all that matters to me

Can a too stiff shaft for your irons cause your swing to bottom out too early? It kind of makes sense that it would.

This is incorrect information!!!!!!!! Does the shaft hit the ball??????? Shafts that are too stiff can cause you to change your tempo to try and restore some bending feel of the shaft in your hands. Yes it can change ball flight but not by very much! The biggest effect of a shaft that is too stiff will be horrible feel and a change in your golf swing to bring back that feel and that is why the other things show up like reduced distance, reduced accuracy, and higher scores! As a clubfitter we always err on the soft side when we fit a golfer that we are unsure of perfect shaft flex! Your swing speed is decent for an iron and yes it is near an S flex as far as that goes but there is no standard for shaft flex measurement so that S could be a X or an A from another company! It is really sad that there is no standard for shaft flex and it was spoke about in the 90's but the companies were all too stubborn to agree so we have this system that exists today with no measured standards just letters on a shaft. The proper flex & weight of the shaft should always be fit to a golfers swing speed, tempo, transition from backswing to downswing, wrist release point, & strength. That is how a shaft should be fit.

Almost the same for me.

my swing speed is in the low 100's for irons I was using calloway x-18 pros with s300 shafts 7 iron was around 175 I just got Mizuno mp-57's with the s300 shafts my 7 iron is around 160 I took my clubs to a fitter today and he said my shafts was to stiff in the mizunos. He swears that I will start being more consistent with my irons now. and will gain the distance back.
