People who have any combination of Mizuno irons in their bag, speak up and let me know what your setup looks like.

Here's what I'm thinking of doing with my irons:

2i replacement -- MP Fli Hi 18* (??)

3, 4 -- MP 57's
5, 6, 7 -- MP 60's
8-PW -- MP 32's

I'm having an MP-60 6-iron built to my specs to try it out before I pull the trigger on the whole set, but I'm pretty stoked on the concept of it.

Thoughts? Feelings? Share what you did?

Dude, I wish I would have done something similar, ut I would have went MX25 long irons as you just can't believe how easy they are to hit than mp57, mp32,and than to mp wedges.Love the idea go with it.

It's a great idea, and a few companies have tried it over the years. These days with custom everything, it's pretty easy to do.

I have a Fli-Hi 18˚, and then 3-PW MP-33's. I will probably replace the 3 iron as well based on how easy the 2 iron is to hit.

If you were going to make a custom set yourself, either buy buying off ebay, or through a dealer, I would recommend keeping it in the same club "family";
ie... MP 30/33, MP 32/60, or MP 52/57/67.

Cheers, Allan

You don't have to keep it in the same family, per say, because you can gt the loft's bent to match up throughout the whole set, so you can go with MX'S to MP'S and still get consistanly pleasing ball flight through out the set.

Keep it the same.. you dont want 4 different types of clubs to go from 2-PW.. The 60's are really, NOT that hard to hit.. and the 32's are more forgiving than the 67's, so you may want to go with 3-5 MP 60 and 6-PW MP 32.

Well there is this link... http://www.thesandtrap.com/forum/sho...=mixing+mizuno

Im totally trying to fill my bag with Mizuno. I can't decide yet on the hybrids. I'm not sure if I want to go with the ones from the MX950s or MX100s. I'd love some comparison between the two, in an IM of course so as not to get off topic . I call these true hybrids since their shaft length is exactly the same as the irons they replace. Before I go with the Fli Hi CLK (not that there is anything wrong with those at all) I'll keep my Cobra DWS. That thing is hot! But I like the idea of a hybrid with a shorter shaft.

I am going to replace my Vokey SW & LW (60* not in the bag now) with MP-Ts. Also I want to pickup a MX25 GW since there is no MX23 GW. I hope it feels about the same as my MX-23s.

I'm also torn between the F-50s and F-60 fairway woods. I can't understand why Mizuno has dumped the strong 3 and 4 wood in their MX700 line. Plus they added some length (1/2" I think) to their 5 wood shaft. SHAME ON THEM. Have they been reading Taylormade's website?

I have the FLI-HI 3, MP-57 4-9, and then wedges (including P). This isn't quite what you're talking about, but I'm happy with it.

I'm not saying he should'nt, I'm just saying he does'nt have to and I would'nt , I hit the 4-5 iron in MX25 better than any other long iron and to go from a cavity back to a blade throughout your set isn't going to hurt anything as( unless you play blades) you pretty much do the same thing between 3 or 4 iron and most lofted wedge any way, like all new set's it would take getting used to, at the same time though if you don't like full cavity backs then don't use them just putting the idea out there.

I'm still not 100% sold on the Fli-Hi, so really I'm just concerned with 3-PW for now. Good point about the 60's, in fact according to the Maltby Chart, the 60's are easier to play than my 990's are. The only reason I am thinking about doing 57's in the 3 and 4 is just for a little added forgiveness in the long irons. I'm a pretty good ball striker but I'd like a touch of wiggle room when I'm staring down 215+ yards. Then again, maybe when I get this 6-iron MP-60 built, and it actually fits me (unlike my inch-too-short, degree too flat, flex too stiff and grip too small irons...), maybe I'll be ripping the 60's easy enough that I won't see a need for that. At the very least though, I think I'll be doing 3-7 in MP 60's and 8-PW in MP 32's.

I'm going to have them built by a clubfitter and Mizuno dealer, and I feel like they could make it work if I decided to mix up the long irons. Anyone in the Philly area should check them out. http://izettgolf.com/ Not the most high-tech or flashy website... but Bobby Jones and Sam Snead played Izett Golf Clubs, so you get the feeling they know what they're doing. But anyway, I still may stick with just the MP 60 into the MP 32, but I do like the idea of a little bit more forgiveness in the 3 and 4.

If you go with the 57's, go with the 6 or 7-PW in 67

If you change familys, it really will feel weird. the 57's will be pretty forgiving, moreso than the 60's.. but then you will lose a little forgiveness on the 67 end.. so your options are.

57-67- more forgvingin long irons, less forgiving short irons
60-32- less forgivingin long irons, more forgiving short irons.

REgardless of handicap, the clubs will not look, or feel the same.. Its hard to describe.. But you will NOT like it. They will not have the same chaercteristics.. it just depends which end of your set you want more forgivness on.

For some reason, I was mis-reading "feel" as "look" or as more of a mental thing, which I could get over since they look quite similar. I didn't realize that "feel" actually meant "feel" if that makes sense, haha. I pounded a few balls with demo 6-irons, MP 60 & MP 57 back to back. I was shocked at how big a difference their was in the feedback. To me, the 57's all felt the same, sort of an empty click, making you work a lot harder to get the buttery smooth feeling that I've always loved Mizunos for. The 60's had a much softer, more responsive feel to me, letting me know exactly where on the face I struck the ball. At the same time, it still gave me the softer feel I am looking for. No doubt it is due to the extra mass behind the ball, not being a full cavity like the 57, I was just surprised to be able to feel that big a difference. I would not want that separation in my set, I would never want to hit anything above a 5 iron, because I'm sure I would associate that lack of feel with less than great ballstriking and confidence. This big difference in feel also makes me wonder if I will be happy if I decide to go with the MP Fli Hi as a 2-iron replacement? However, I will still split the set between the MP 60 and MP 32, for a little more feel and control in my short irons. 3-7 MP60, 8-PW in MP32?

NOOO!!!

I will go one further and suggest you get the 6 iron a well. If you can afford it I would recommend getting the 6 & 7 irons in both. That way you can switch them out depending on how you are playing and as you improve, you might really appreciate the MP-32's.

    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
