I have a Taylormade R7 Superquad driver with a Regular Flex stock shaft. I bought the club used when I was starting out and when my swing speed was that of a regular flex shaft in the mid 80's. Now I swing 108-115ish. I went to golfsmith and they told me that they would advise I re-shaft my driver.

My only problem is that I am hitting my driver really well right now, I am getting a huge arc in my ball flight which I am told is a result of the shaft being regular flex not stiff. I am a little superstitious and I am about to start playing Varsity Golf and I dont want to change the shaft and then realize I cant hit as well with it.

I need advice.. what do you people think I should do in this situation? Replace the shaft or keep doing what I am doing until the shaft snaps?

Why fix what works? If you can't hit a stiff flex any better than a regular flex, I wouldn't switch. If the stiff goes straighter and gives a better ballflight, it may be time to switch.

Try out a stiff shaft in the club and compare results. Seeing as the SuperQuad is discontinued, I don't see that many stores/pro shops that carry them anymore. Find a friend who has one if you cannot find a store that carries them anymore. IMO, you should be fit for a shaft. Your results with a fit shaft should be better than with one that's not fit.

If your happy with your driving then leave it alone. I have been considering changing the stock shaft in my driver but I'm quite happy with my driving at the moment so I will leave it for now. Why not take out a demo club and see what the results are with that?

Thats a tough one. I was hitting my driver really well and then I got fitted. My old shaft was better than my new one but it could of been the person who fit me. Now I dont know what to do besides put my old shaft back in and sell the new one. Its hard to change.

If you hit your drives with a large arc, you may be ballooning the ball and loosing distance. A new shaft will probably lower your ball flight and provide some crucial distance. If you are happy with the distance you are getting and don't mind the high ball flight, then I say stick with it. If you feel that your ball should be going longer, I suggest getting fitted with a shaft you like and put that in your driver.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
