Hi guys,

I just bought a set online of Wilson Ci7 irons, based on hitting them of a mat but most importantly the great reviews all over the web. I have been playing some Tour Collection "forged" feel irons ($130 complete set) since I started in late 06, and was able to hit 86 one time with those. Mostly shoot 92-96 now (2 shoulder dislocations while MTBing have taken months from my golf game).

My question is for people who have gone from chinese knockoffs to real irons, is the transition difficult? Was there a marked immediate improvement or was it a slow process. I obviously will hit the range prior to my first round, but any other tips you want to give me?

I am really happy as this was the next step to take my game to the level I want, but there is a bit of doubt in me, that maybe I won't be able to hit them as I have grown accustomed to my chinese darlings?

What you typically will see with "brand name" clubs, typically is more consistency in design and shaft performance. The standards that the factories are held to hopefully is tighter when they have a big brother looking over their shoulder, than just doing it on their own. You should not have any difficulty with the transition as long as the design of the new clubs is similar to the old. Offset vs. no offset, shaft flex, etc. Any significant improvement will be mainly from greater confidence. If you think you are going to hit the clubs well, you will. Keep your confidence high, don't let the bad shots get you down, and you will have a great time with your new great clubs! Good luck

I gained a solid 10 yards off every club when presented with the new set, and theres no comparison to the feel you should definetly get some confidence from them, not saying youll play better but you will like them more.

Hopefully I won't notice anything but the lighter shaft, which will help with the shoulder pain.

I will report back after the range and first round.

Hi guys,

hit the Ci7's yesterday. A few impressions.

1. They are beautiful irons, narrow soles which I love and thin to medium top line.
2. Long shafts and strong lofts, hitting one club more for each. Hit some PW about 135 when perfect, 120 when average, used to hit my pw 100.
3. Mishits are harsh, but not overly. Enough to be felt and know it was a BAD hit.
4. Sweetspot is flush, not soft as forged irons but a good solid flush feeling.
5. Nice trajectory and the flighted shafts work well, a bit too high on the gw and pw, but nice and high(er) on the 4 and 5 irons.
6. The gap wedge hit the sweet spot, as I play vokeys 54/58, the gw is 50 and pw 46.
7. For $260 "used" they can't be beat IMO.

8. Feels nice to have a set of irons designed and manufactured for a better game, instead of chinese knockoffs. Hopefully these will get my hcp to the mid teens.

Forgot to add, went from stiff to regulars, best decision ever.

More distance but didn't lose control.

When I made my transition from the first irons I had (some brand made in Dallas, TX called FoxBat) to my current Callaway X-14's I didn't feel there was much of a difference except that the X-14's were lighter (both sets have steel shafts). But one day I had to play a round with the old FoxBat set, and woaaaah...a world of difference. I could hardly swing the clubs let alone take a good shot. The difference between both sets was like the difference between white and black.

You never really feel the advancment of your gadgets untill you have to go back to the old stuff, in retrograde. And that applies to everything not just to golf.
My achievements:
Eagles: 0
Birdies: 18
Best Round: 89

How are the Ci7's coming along? I'm looking to purchase them in the near future. What is your driver and iron SS? I am contemplating on either regular or stiff. Also, isn't the PW 44* and GW 50*?

Hey WRX,

The Ci7's are incredible. I shot a 41 today in a 9 hole round. Broke my record in part because of the irons. They are very long, so still adjusting. Today I flew a green with a 138 9 iron. My normal 9 iron went 120.

As far as flex, I can tell you I am VERY happy I went with regulars. Used to play stiff but there is NO need. I hit the irons higher and longer with regulars, no change in accuracy.

You will love the Ci7's, just get them. For the price nothing can touch them IMO, not Titleist, nothing. The flighted shafts are awesome for the long irons. Man I just love towering high 4 irons.

As far as swing speed, I would estimate mine to be in the mid 90's. My longest drives are about 275, short around 220, average 250. 150 yards is a full 8 iron. Let me know if you have any questions.

I switched from SGI irons to these .. what a difference it made. They made such a difference I ended up switching to Wilson driver and woods ...

This set has improved my game a ton. I have much more control, yet still have some give.

If your swing is off that day, you can defiantly tell. With SGI's you can have a bad swing and still hit the ball decent. These irons will give you some feedback.

I'm in love with the set

    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
