mine was at least 3 months in,,, back in sept 2007 probably...drove about 290 on a par 4 330 yd uphill,,,then with my fav club *60 lobbed up within 4 feet sank the putt. Have not birdied that hole since, but have probably made 10 birds less than 15. ..only made 1 eagle another par 4,,,250 yd drive down right of frway. *60 again !!! from 100 yds or so landed on green but never saw it sink....just found it in the cup.

PLAYED LAST SUNDAY AND HAD 4 BIRDIE attempts from green MISSED ALL OF THEM! 3 from 5 ft or less...$%%^#!!
Im on a 5 month birdie slump....

1st eagle was when i was 13 with my dad. it was a hole in 1 on a par 3...didn't play for a good 12-13 years....my 1st birdie in modern times came during my 1st season really playing 2 years ago.... par 5.... 505 slightly uphill with an elevated green..the drive left me with 225.
i thinned a 3 iron but it still went about 180 yards. (i didn't have a hybrid or 3 wood then)

hit a shot that i don't even really know what to call it...i didn't know how to pitch, hit a flop or anything like that...i just knew how to swing..
ball landed on the opposite side of the green. in the long stuff... i'm like great... i can't get this to stop...the green's sloping down... i just tried to get the ball on the green...just to give me a chance to putt..... hit the shot...it straight up hit the flag stick on the fly....dropped on the edge of the cup..then fell in...

i knew i was lucky..shot about a 129 that day...but that memory kept me coming back and wanting to get better

Second round ever.

Par 3, 165 yards, water from 130 to 150.

About 4 ft from the cup, downhill putt, very fast.

Just touched it and it got there.

The funny thing is when I started playing I really cut my irons, aimed perfectly left and it cut beautifully towards the center pin.

Sad part is never made a birdie again on that hole (don't play it much though).

I was 52 years old and had been playing for about 5 months. 480 yd par 5. Hit a nice drive, a 3 wood and a 7 iron (yeah I know not a big hitter) to about 4 feet and then made the putt. Next hole was a 340 yard par 4 and I made an 8. Hell I still remember my first par.

Loyalty above all else, except honor.

My second year, around 1999 or 2000, probably only had 5 or 6 rounds under my belt, playing Rifle Creek GC in Colorado. 90* dogleg par 4 on the back nine. Don't remember what I hit but on my second shot I was amazed that I was on the green and then drained a breaking 20 footer for my first bird.

i was 9 or 10 years old, and it was a 150 yard par 3. my tee shot missed the green just a little to the right and i chipped the ball right on up into the hole. my parents were all super proud.

...i wish they would've tried to keep me on golf a bit more. i quit playing not long after that and didn't pick it up again for almost 15 years.

Yes, clearly. It was two weeks ago. Probably my 6th round I ever played.

Par 5 dogleg right. Hit my driver with a draw, which is unusual because I normally fade. Then skulled my 7 iron. Then with 125y left I put a PW within 6' from the hole and sunk the 1st putt.

Been close to a birdie at least 4 times before, so I'm glad I got that behind me.

I made a birdie in my first round of golf. I skulled a 5-iron from 100 yards through a bunker to 2 feet and made the putt. That was 10 years ago and I still remember every second. On a bad note though that hole is one of the toughest holes on that course for me now.

I had an eagle long before I had a birdie in my first season playing. As a 44 handicap on one of our par 5's, I accidentally hit a tee shot and hybrid in the fairway. I followed those miracles up with a chip-in on my way to blowing away the skins competition with a net 1 on the hole.

I think it took a couple months. All I remember was hitting good first and second shots, and then skulling my pitch, but I got lucky and it stayed around the green. I made my fringe-putt for a bird.

    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
