The winner of this years "crappy" award goes to the Maltby KE4 Tour.

I took delivery of 5-pw of these unholy pieces of platypuss feces today. Without exception these could be the worst iron head produced ever. Ever see the movie "Clan of the Cave Bear"? Those guys could have made a better head than the fool who devised the KE4 Tour.

It was almost comical how bad these clubs are. They have ZERO FEEL at all. They have the dullest feeling head ever put into a shaft. On top of that they are 15-20 yards shorter on every club than the average OEM set. I insisted that 4 other people (people I know) hit these clubs and each and every one of them had the same disgusted look on their faces. It is amazing....... So after a while I take them out on the course and the distances produced by these POS are so short that you begin to swing out of your shoes to get "normal distance" from them.

I hit a Deep Red Tour II 9I 155 yards at 95%. The furthest I could produce a 9I with a KE4 tours was 130 and that was going at it. Dissapointed is not an appropriate word, It was laughable not only to myself but everyone who hit them. They look great at address but feel like you are swinging a sponge at contact.

What kind of shaft did you have in them? Could it be that the shafts were part of the problem?

I hope you did not spend too much money on them. Anyway possible for you to return them?

Hate to say it, but you get what you pay for. Why would you get these in the first place? Did you lose a bet?

What weights did you have in the KE4s? Since the lofts match the Deep Red II Tours it seems really strange that you would lose so much distance.

I checked these out on the t'internet. They look cr*p. The website looks cr*p. No reviews. Prices are very cheap. Begs the question....

WHY DID YOU BUY THEM?

You have a very low handicap. You are obviously an above average to good, possibly very good player. Why on earth buy something so cr*p.

You could get some used mizuno mx-25 or mx-23 or even mx-200s. Or anything else for that matter. Surely you can send em back. Just break them in some way and claim your money back under guarantee!

You say you don't save money on golf and coffee. Well if that's the case why do all this component stuff-I just don't get the point? And also the brands you have chosen are not top brands, Lynx-I didn't even know people still used them. And aren't snake eyes sort of quality and more budget prices.

I just don't get what you're trying to do. Not criticising-just don't get it.

Wouldn't it be better to just go and buy some quality clubs-test a load and buy whatever you like-since money is no object to your golf!

Sounds like you tried to take "cheap" way out...sorry. I've seen "new" to the game golfers who like to build or tinker build there own clubs, but never a low handicap.

I believe that 90% of the time you get what you pay for in this world.

I think he was just trying to build a component set; he probably has other clubs that he uses more often. Besides, everything else in the set he built works very well he said, except for his irons.

My Deep Red Tour IIs are back in the back as of 10 minutes ago. I was at the range this morning giving the Maltbys one last run and they are just terrible.

I saw a later reply related to your KE4 problem and the shaft. I think he is correct. The clubhead of an iron would have almost no effect on distance. The combined weight of the clubhead, the weight of the shaft, the flex of the shaft and the torque of the shaft and for longer graphite shafts, possibly even the orientation of the shaft would have a lot to do with what you're experiencing.

I just ordered a 5 iron KE4 Tour with a Project X rifle shaft. I think it should be a good combo as long as the shaft is correct. If you accidentally tipped your 115 shaft to the X stiffness, that could possibly cause what you're feeling.

If you have a "too stiff" shaft, you might be able to play the lead tape game and keep adding lead to the head until you feel the shaft kick. Of course you could end up with a sledge hammer I suppose.
