Did anyone else notice the Tiger Love Fest going on by NBC during the broadcast yesterday? The shouting and screaming after he sank his putt on 18. The rebroadcasts of his shots. They will NEVER do that for anyone else even Phil. It actually got a little sickening yesterday.

He is back we all know it. But it has been written before and probably will be again, Tiger is ratings and the media loves that.

5 Wood: Big Bertha Titanium 19*
Irons : 755Wedges: Vokey 50* Wedges: 588 DSG 56* Putter: 2 Ball Lined Blade 35Ball : ProV1

They wouldn't do that for anyone else because no one else deserves it. Phil is a very good golfer, but neither him nor anyone else trascends the game like Tiger has. In fact, all those other golfers owe a huge debt to Tiger for making the game so main-stream. A huge percentage of golf fans (myself included) would never give a crap about golf if it wasn't for Tiger Woods. It would still be a game dominated completely by white, country club people.

With an extremely clutch putt on 18 in fading sunlight to cap off his very 1st win since ACL surgery, since winning the U.S. Open, marking the one year anniversary of his extremely clutch putt to win the Arnold Palmer in 2008...I'd say the media, the fans, and everything in between are right to be freaking out.

Of course Tiger is ratings. That's such a glib statement for you to make that it attempts to marginalize his comeback and past accomplishments. Oh well, it's your right, but I don't agree with it.

I'm glad you said this!

I am sick to death of it too! Even if he would have lost, the "talking heads" would STILL be replaying every one of his shots! I just don't watch anymore... I can't stand it!

Are you telling me you didn't get pumped up when he sank that putt?

Give me another guy on tour who nails pressure putts and plays better down the stretch than Tiger, and... OH WAIT - there isn't anyone! Golf has been without it's ambassador for ~9 months. And now that he's back, he is getting his normal and deserved attention.

Were you also dissapointed when they replayed his putt on the 72nd of the US Open last year? Tiger is epic, man.

Yeah, I hate to watch the greatest player on the planet. Years from now, when my grandchildren ask me what it was like to watch the guy who won 21 majors and 100 PGA Tour events, I'll be proud to tell 'em I stopped watching him right after the media began fawning over him after his Masters win in 1997.

That'll show 'em![/sarcasm]

Excuse me, but in what way was I glib or try to marginalize this victory? I talked about the Tiger love fest, which relates to the media and that he is back. What did I write that led you to jump to this conclusion?

No golfer transcends the game, sorry. Golf will be here before and after Tiger, Jack or Arnie. Tiger will be the best ever probably but no one will ever be bigger than the game. And no, I did not root for Tiger to sink that putt. I wanted the tournament to keep going.

Lol, look up the definition of glib and then get back to me, kid!

And while you're at it, look up the word "transcend" as well for me.

ratings = money. What would YOU do if you worked for NBC and you were able to make buttloads of money off 1 guy and his amazing accomplishments? Would you pass because you don't like to make money and you think it's "sickening" to market someone? What planet are you from? What do you do for a living? Do you make money or do you find it "sickening" to make money?

Yes, Tiger fans and the media were hungry for this to happen, but Tiger won in dramatic fashion the same tournament he previously won, again in dramatic fashion. He has a history at the Arnie invite. The fans and media brought the "love" but it was Tiger who brought the "festival." ....even Phil?? No kidding...

Looked up transcend and its said to rise above by an attribute or power. I wouldn't say he transcends golf, I'd say he has transcended over all others in the game today.

If ya have anymore questions on transcend, I got my definition from the webster dictionary.

The sound of Tiger winning is the sound of money in the bank. For the networks, the PGA and the other players. Aside from that, who does not love a great story like the Woods Fairy Tale?

I was playing with a writer/director in Hollywood this morning and we agreed, if you wrote Tiger's story in a script as fiction, it would seem to "unrealistic". Who would believe even just his last 12-14 months? SubPar

Tiger deserves the praise. What else are the TV people supposed to say after a crazy putt like that?

You guys should get off the soapbox and feel privileged that you get to watch one of the best athletes ever play live on TV(or in person).

Take Tiger Woods away from golf and the game would be in a totally different state from where it's at today, and not for the better.

So they should have been congradulating o hair on giving up a 5 shot lead? on hitting a ball in the water? on playing some pretty mediocre golf? or should they have replayed a fantastic putt made in a clutch situation by the most world reknowned athelete? They would do the same re plays for phil, but heres the big problem, Phil doesnt make those putts! At the tourny phill won last week there were plenty of replays of good shots/holes he played.

Bottom line, Tiger is recognized by EVERYONE on the planet.. heres a short list
1) it was a fantastic putt!
2) hes tiger friggen woods
3) were talking about it right now arent we?
$) they dont show anyone else making putts because NO ONE ELSE CONSITENTLY MAKES CLUTCH SHOTS!

I think Tiger might be bigger then the game. When has any course or any player be able to hold him back for a length of time? I'm going to say it Tiger is bigger then the game no one will ever out do him. He gets all the highlight reals, because week after week he makes the shots that win.

Rooting for him? Absolutely.

But NBC put the spotlight on the right guy - they celebrated Tiger's birdies and drainined putts down the stretch. I would much rather watch those replays and listen to the commentary on Tiger, rather than O'Hair's struggle. It would've been awesome if Sean could've pulled it out. But he didn't, and Tiger did what he does best.

    • Hi all. I've joined as a TST sponsor and while I don't intend to bombard your forums with product plugs ad nauseum, I wanted to put a bit of philosophy behind how I've trod this path. Although I've only been playing golf since COVID, I've realised there are minute changes in golf setups that impact performance like no other sport I have played/contested in my life. Recently I made a super small change to my grip (using a trigger index finger on my trail hand) that has improved my ball striking dramatically. It blows my mind. I love being so involved in something that my spare moments are spent analysing how I played and how I can improve. (I recently looked at my stats and my worst pickup holes are Par 5s - I actually play the lowest index holes better than the rest - what he heck?? Mental game after bad shots and concentration needs work there methinks) And when the small changes matter so much, we need to ensure there is a strategic approach to improvement. Incremental change is critical. Don't deviate from what is known without understanding that any change affects another. This is where the concept for my training aids was born. Something Erik shared a long time ago - The Virtue of being a Stupid Monkey - stole way too much of my spare time this week pondering. Do I want to know WHAT to do, or do I want to know WHY to do it? It is indeed the what. I've always been a "Try it, and if it works, keep doing until something better springs to mind." A sore back or knee will ruin your round. Do you want to to know how to play around it, or do you need to understand why it's happening? I'll go into more detail on this soon. In the meantime, here's a video that wraps up the basics of SwingMate, the flagship product. Thanks for having me!
    • Possibly, deffo trying to weaken my right hand somewhat. Left hand I believe is fine as I'm mostly fingers there with grip under the fat pad. But my lesson tomorrow will hopefully shed some light
