Is there really such a thing?

People that I have asked have put the cleveland CG14's on one end of the spectrum and vokey's on the other.

What would i be getting in the CG14's vs the vokey's as far as help? Love my game improvement irons and notice a big difference vs my old dci's.

Anyone have a sense for what you would notice as the difference in forgiveness or playability in these vs. something less forgiving?

My wedge mistakes are generally the fat or thin variety. For example, will a thin shot with a CG14 get up in the air more than the same shot with a vokey?

In most wedges 'forgivness' is limited. The sweet spot in the CG14 is a little larger than in a Vokey, but you're not going to notice a huge difference with a bad shot. The biggest difference I always found is in the actual 'feel' inself. About the most forgiving wedge I have seen the last few years was the Cleveland CG11, which as a little more forgiving than the CG14 - meaning the sweet spot is again a little larger. If you really feel you need forgivness is a wedge like a game improvement iron, you can probably find wedges that match game improvement irons sets (for example, Callaway sells Big Bertha wedges in SW and LW that match the irons). Those wedges will be more forgiving than most traditonal blade wedges, but most better players do not like them as well because they are not as versatile and lack the feel of the blade wedges.

Wedges are meant for control snd workability and those large wedges will lack the workability factor.

Acer makes a XC wedge. I have two of them, and like them alot. They have the look of a blade type wedge, but the weight is on the corners more then it is in the middle, similar address position. I hit them very well, and yesterday at the range, with old beat up range balls the ball checked up and stoped on 3/4 shots.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I was somewhat worried about this with my G5s...the wedges are certainly in the "forgiving" category.

Playing my 2 round with them yesterday....it was extremely windy and approach shots were missing left on a couple of holes.

On case had me standing with a small tree between me and the green. I laid the 54deg SW way open and swung through with some gusto. The ball did exactly as hoped...leaping up above the trees.

Simular scenario...but decided to go below the branches...same club...hooded the face and gave a short decending blow....ball came out low with lots of check-up spin.

Wedges have done well from the sand.

I can see, though, how the set up would aggravate a better player.
