So I took about a 5 month break from posting... mostly because my game was going downhill and I didn't feel like talking about golf much. But here it is, spring, and yes, hope springs eternal. I'm hoping to break 90 once between now and September!

Anyway, hope y'all had a nice Easter. Speaking of Easter this is a video from this Saturday, the day before. My folks were up visiting and my kids were playing in the backyard. I was watching the 3 round of The Master's when my mom says "Mark, have you seen what your son is doing in the back yard?" Well I hadn't, and I was blown away. Here is my 21 month old son, future pga champion

I couldn't be prouder

I think he's working on the flop shot Phil plays. put a wedge in his hands and let see his flop shot on video.

Has he practice putting yet? Where does he get the great form from? he knows how to hold his finish.

and he's got good focus.

Thanks guys! When I picked him up from Daycare yesterday I was told he spent the afternoon practicing his golf swing with a plastic hammer and a wiffle ball. LOL.

Even though it's a long way off for him, I'm kinda bummed about our local pros and their attitude to giving kids golf lessons. My daughter is 7 and I talked to them about lessons for her and they said the really would rather not instruct anyone younger than 9.

Is that typical?

I know one pro who has no problems giving kid's lessons, it's not a nice club, but a semi private "sort of below average course"....Pro is divorced, has a 12 year old daughter, and a very nice guy...unless he takes my money on Thursday afternoon.

So...they are out there, just gotta look. Your boy has some serious natural talent. If I ever see a pro in 18 years from now hit a flop shot with a driver...I will know who's son it is! Good Luck and don't press him too hard, looks like he has got the desire for the great game in his eyes already...your problem might be holding him back.

Hate to rehash an older thread, but that's awesome. I found this thread researching clubs for my 4 years old and it brings me back to when he was that young... ah the progression:

This is him roughly the same age:

Couldn't get him out the store without getting him something as well... at least he grew into it:

at the range later that year:

His impression of Barkley:

and now the much older and wiser crackup I deal with now:

and the most recent:

My problem with him now is that he's stuck on name brands, Nike being his favorite. Looks like I'm destined to get him the TW Red set.... why couldn't he be a TM guy like his old man.

immts007, any more pics vid of the soon to be competition on the Tour (ah Dad's are still allowed to dream right!)

Forgot to add the vido that goes with it from that day:

Not the best swing that day, but you can see he has no problem holding back!

Went to go check out the R9's at Golfsmith this weekend and #1 (affectionate nickname my wife has given the 1st born) has convinced me to ditch spending the money on myself and to get an actual good set for him. Seems like he's ready to hit the 9-hole muni around here:

To me it seems like most all the positions come natural, but does anyone have any insight on whether or not I should be taking him to see a pro like once a month etc etc for guidance. Everything he knows about golf is from what he's seen on tv when I'm watching and just observing myself at the range. Don't have to worry about him burning out, b/c this is pretty much 1 of 5 sports he is actively pursing.... I forsee busy weekends for the next 18 years....

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
