The hybrid sounds like a good choice for you, until you take enough lessons to learn how to stop slicing.
I was having the exact same problem, so I bought an Adams Boxer A4 #3 hybrid and my game improved instantly. Now I hit a lot more fairways, and even though I lost some distance (20-30 yds. less with the hybrid) my scores had gone lower.
In the meanwhile, try closing the grip on your left hand at adress, so you can see 3 knuckles, that should help somewhat on your slice.

dont let everyone bash on the driving iron so much.. i would think you could get much more distance hitting say a one hybrid, but an 18 degree Clevland LDI or Mizzy Flihi may serve you well. They are iron like and easier to hit than a two iron wich you may use off the tee. they have their uses, dont let some guys turn you away from them.

Ive owned a few driving irons (Titleist 503H and Mizuno MP Fli-Hi) and I wasnt impressed with them.
I used to struggle with hitting my woods and Id agree with the others who said you merely need to learn how to hit your driver.
I used to hit a big slice with my driver and I found that going to a stronger grip (assuming you are right-handed) straightened out my drives.
At one point in time I was so bad with the woods that I didnt carry any. I was always pretty decent with my irons that I carried all irons. 1-9, PW, 56*, 60* and a putter. It kept me in the fairway, but I only got about 200 yards off of the tee and didnt hit the ball very high. On most courses, you are going to struggle if you only hit the ball 200 yards off of the tee and dont hit the ball high.

What irons do you hit solid - if you cant say this for your 3, 4 or 5 iron forget the idea of a driving iron. If you slice your driver the most likely thing that will happen is that you gonna spray the iron the same, just shorter. The problem with a slice is not in the club but in the swing - let a pro have a look at it and also discuss the options for alternatives off the tee (forgiving 3/5 wood or hybrid) til you get it fixed.

ok... this will not set well with the masses.... but I carry every club from a 1 iron on up... I carry a driver,a Wislon FatBoy, but it stays in the bag in it's sock...yep, I carry it so my bag won't look odd...but I'll tee off with the 1 iron. I've only played twice this year, but I've driven the ball nearly as far as those Ihat I'm playing with, and they're using metal drivers. almost as far, when I hit it good... I just drove the green ,actually over the green on a long par3 the other day!! I'll admit that I need to practice more... alot more,in all honesty. but I LOVE hitting long irons. could I score better using utility clubs...maybe... but I cannot hit that huge driver worth a darn. so I have no confidence in any wood...hence, I don't own any.now I already can hear those who are better golfers than myself saying what those irons are costing me... yep... I know, but I don't worry about having a 1 or 2 handicap..I really don't. I see those long irons the same way I see my recurve bow, the only bow I own/hunt with. it's harder to master, yeah... it's not as accurate off the shelf as the newer hi-tech bows on the market today, but they're not for me. I have been sucessful with it, and I approach the irons the same way. harder..yes... but I don't wanna be like everyone else on the course. I accept the challenge of having to work harder to attain something.
flame away....

I had the big slice when I started playing. Very frustrating I know and yes, I tried some driving irons also (wast of money in my opinion). Nothing, of course, beats a lesson but at the same time all the new technology in today's drivers has all but eliminated the slice.

My recommendation is a Cleveland Hibore XLS which is last years model, was well priced even when it first came out and I imagine even less now. A higher loft will help with accuracy also... say a 12 degree. But definitely get fitted.

To all, Driver Delima is solved! A friend of mine just purchased the new Nike SasQuatch Sumo 460 (8.5 degree, stiff flex). With the purchase, he recieved a free 3 wood. His plan all along was to sell the driver, and he would basically have gotten the 3 wood for free. The day he recieved the driver, we take it to the range to try it out. I asked him if I could hit it and he agrees. (HUGE mistake). I manage to miss hit the ball so bad that i put a dent on the BOTTOM of the club. I felt terrible, so I offered to buy the club. I demanded a discount, being that the driver was used and damaged!!!! He laughed and agreed to sell it to me for $160. All in all we both walked away happy and got a huge laugh out of the whole situation. Now if I could just learn how to hit the damn thing!!!!

you would be mad to get a driving iron when hybrids are so easy to hit

    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

    • Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
