Yesterday and today, I played the first 2 rounds in several weeks(the bass fishing has been great). I have never struggled with my woods, EVER. Yesterday, I felt like throwing them in the river next to the course. Today, the 5 wood came out of the bag once(which was a mistake). I hit all of my irons true as well as decent driving, but my 3 and 5 woods were H**L. I couldn't hit them from the tee, fairway, or slight rough. I hit them fat, thin, left, right; everyway but straight. I ended up using my 3iron off the tee, when the driver wasn't warranted. I tried a hybrid a few months ago, and could never get the hang of it(I don't think I gave it enough time). After yesterday, I am thinking of putting the woods in the closet and getting a couple of hybrids(maybe 14* and 17*). Most of my playing partners and friends have done this and say they will never look back. I never thought I would ever consider shucking my beloved Steelheads, but I've lost confidence in them.

I say try it! I don't know how much luck you'll have with the 14*, but it wouldn't hurt to get one and get on a launch monitor

I am considering the 14* to use off the tee more than anything else. I have and sometimes carry a 1 and 2 iron. I hit them well off the tee and tight fairway, but no-go in the rough.

Oh yeah, brand recommendations would be appreciated. I am looking at Titleist 585s and Cleveland Halos/Hibores.

I love my nickent hybrids and i guess the 5dx's are better than the 4dx's. Really easy to hit. I can hit them off the tee, fairway, and rough. I love um!

My grandpa has a g10 hybrid and it's probably the nicest hybrid ive ever hit. I love the shape and it just feels great. The shafts on the g10's are nice and its super duper easy to hit if thats what youre looking for.

My dad picked up some bobby jones hybrids and they are pretty nice as well, I'm not a fan of the shape, but he hits them great and loves them.

I think you should definitely give them another try. If you are struggling with your 3 wood and 5 wood you should try hybrids with the same lofts as those woods so you still have the same distance but with easier to hit clubs.

It took me a while to convert over to hybrids and now I carry 3 (17, 23 and 26). I really think the Mizuno Fli Hi CLK hybrids would be worth a look since the price is right and they are great - forgiving, but still workable and they can have the loft and lie adjusted if needed. They are by far the best I've tried (and I've tried just about all of them). I have not tried the new MX-700 model, but I know it has gotten good reviews as well. Another one that I tried and thought was OK is the Adams Pro models. They have a solid feel and are also workable.

Hybrids are okay, but they only have 1 shot, which is high and thats pretty much it. 14* & 17* hybrid isn't that much easier to hit than a wood, IMO. What does make it a little easier is the shaft lenght isn't quite as long as a wood shaft.

So you had a couple of bad rounds; it happens to all of us. If you have hit these clubs well in the past there is no reason that can't continue. IMO, you had some bad hits and got frustrated which started a negitive cycle, and just got worse from there. LOL, go bass fish'n, get a new atittude and try it again.

If you are normally a good fairway wood player, don't give up on them. I tried several brands of hybrids and can't stand them. I'm a good fairway wood player and I'm sticking with them.

I have a Nickent 1iH in my bag and smash it! It is very good off the tee on tight holes, etc...I really like mine, but it is all preference. I used to use a hybrid for my 3i and 4i, but I have since put the irons back in my bag.

Don't knee jerk. If it was one bad round then give it another go. If you're a good wood player normally then consider a 7 wood. Personally I converted to a hybrid to fill a hole in my bag and golf galaxy didn't have a 7 wood. I figured what the hell. I've played four rounds with it and am just now getting to the point where I can hit it well. If you were planning on looking at them anyway then go for it. I personally have a heaven wood 3H. Produces a good ball flight and I'm considering getting a 2 and 4. but the first thing I recommend to you go to the range and work with your clubs. You may just be rusty.

yeah because club loft is the only thing that determines distance [sarcasm].

Actually shaft length, flex, and otherwise as well as head weighting and other factors will have just as much of an impact as loft. It is all preference, some people prefer one, others prefer the other... just hit clubs and find what works for YOU. Also, hybrids come in many shapes and sizes, be sure to try out a few. For me... I like a 3-wood, but would rather play a 2-hybrid than a 5-wood.

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the advice and recommendations. I went to Edwin Watts and got on the machine with a few hybrids. I decided that for now, I am going to carry one hybrid and one wood. Maybe the woods will come back, then again maybe not. I have always been a strong iron and woods player, but struggled with driving and the short game(wedges and PUTTER)I know it sounds like a knee jerk, since it was just a couple of rounds. If I had been hitting the occasional bad shot or even 50%, I would not give a rip. I would keep plugging away, but I have lost all confidence in these woods. For me that means essentially forever. So for now, I am playing a hybrid in place of my 5 wood. I will still pull the 3 wood, just to see how it goes. Thanks again for the help.
