I just went to GG and had a golf ball fitting. I was feeling good about it until some guy told me that everyone that he has talked to about have this ended up with the same golf ball.(callaway tour ix). Has anyone else done this and had the same outcome? I normaly play pro v1, but after this fitting it has my top 5 golf balls:

preformance balls
1.callaway tour ix
2.nike one black
3.callaway tour i
4. pro v1
5. nike one platinum

standard balls
1. slazenger/rd speed distance
2. top flite d2 dist.
3.top flite d2 feel
4. slaz rd/ tour speed
5.precept/dist iq-180

my buddies and i had pretty good experiences with GG ball fittings...
SS... trajectories... compression... feel... etc etc...
we all came away with different ball recommendations...
i dont have the fastest swing speed/ball speed and i tend to have a slice everynow and then with a medium to high trajectory...
one of my buddies was the opposite... the other was kinda in between...
i settled on the bridgestones and taylormades

i have had the club fitting and ball fitting from GG. i can tell you the club fitting was worth every penny. They had me switch my shaft and it was the instant feed back. I guess I will know about the balls when it warms up a bit here, I am going to try a couple of the top balls and see how they preform.

Seems like the Callaway tour ix comes up a whole lot. My swing speed is 125 and thats the ball that came up for me. By the way I can't stand that ball. Check out the Srixon line. I play the Z-Star X. Better feel, distance and durability than the Prov1 x I think.

I couldnt agree with you more!!! The ix is a TERRIBLE ball IMHO.

The ix was the first ball that I tossed from my golf ball test this year. It felt way to hard. The Tour i feels pretty firm as well.

Sounds like its a product movement thing... Notice their house brands were 2 or 3 spots on the standard ball list.

BTW, Check out the bridgestone 330 line. I stumbled on a Tour 330 at the course a few weeks back and loved it. I'm switching to them full time as soon as I get through my last dozen Hotbites.

Wow, I don't think that's the case at all. I played the ix last year and liked it a lot. The only reason I switched was I got a great deal on last year's Pro V1...otherwise, I would still be gaming the Callys. They last longer than the Pro V1s and I get about 5 yards more on my drive. They do click a little more, but nothing I couldn't live with.

I thought the iX was the best ball I played last year.

My friend plays the callaway tour ix, he like them but he did say its a harder ball. i was thinking about trying that ball, nike one black, bridgston tour b330. they all were real close in distance, but it showed the callaway with alot more carry. it did show the brigestone tour b330 with alot less accuracy then the black and callaway

for the ball fittings do you use your clubs of just something off the shelf there?

i've done the Bridgestone challenge a couple of times and each time the Pro V1x comes out on top. the tour b330 was about the same but the v1x gave me a little more distance. the others spun a little too much for me.

    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
