I think I'd done with the three wood

I've always been a big advacate of the 3 wood. It has always been one of my favorite clubs. I've notice that the last couple years I haven't been able to hit it off the deck as well as I'd like and have become more dependent on my little piece of crap 5 wood. This weekend I was playing in a scramble and couldn't believe how hard this thing was to hit when I needed it and the 5 wood performs if I take a nice easy swing because the shaft isn't the right flex for me. I'm thinking of getting a 17 degree rapture (which is a 4 wood). I have the rapture driver and love the way it hits and I went to golf galaxy and tried one and hit it consistently 230 with about a 5 yard draw. Plus they just went on sale for 150 and I got a pretty good return from my uncle sammy.

If anyone has any suggestions please go ahead, but I'm pretty sure that I'm going to buy this club.

just i quick thing your problem might be it is a strong 3 wood 13* of loft meaning it is harder

I have to agree with Kim. A strong 3 (probably 13*) is a bit too much off the deck for anybody but the pros or guys with sweeping, high clubhead speeds. I'd say 17* is a good comprimise. That's a 4 wood regardless of what number is stamped on the sole. I'm thinking those Raptures have slightly longer shafts as well. It's just smoke and mirrors on the clubmakers' part.

Get the longest shaft and lowest loft you can hit comfortably, high and straight, and you will be happy.

I've made up my mind about the 4 wood (I thought that was what the degree was for a 4 wood). I'm gonna pick up from the golf galaxy in the morning. The question will be do I want to stay at 13 clubs or pick up another hybrid or something. Thinkin I'm probably gonna stay.

addd a wedge not a hybrid honestly how many times do you score with your hybrids close the gaps in your wedges for example PW 47* Gap 51* sand 56* lob 60* or something like that also you could go wit hDriver 10.5* 3 wood 15* or 15.5* drop the 5 wood and 20* and go 19* hybrid 4-pw with the wedge combo I suggested with the right clubs you'll have 14 clubs with good yardage gaps, just something to think about.

I would try these four different things to help you hit your strong 3 wood:

1) aim slightly left and open the club face slightly and you will get the ball in the air by adding loft to the 13 degree, take your swing back slightly outside to cut the ball for a left to right flight.

2) practice your pitch shots until you are making solid contact and focus on your take away. now use the same take away motion on your 3 wood and see how you make contact.

3) learn to hinge the wrist on your take away so that you will come back to the ball on a slightly decending blow which will help you get the ball into the air and make solid contact with your 3 wood.

4) Practice hitting your driver off the fairway and if you can hit your driver off the deck a strong 3 wood is easy or maybe you don't need the 3 wood anymore if you can hit the driver off the deck, use the same set up as #1 above.

I feel like I need to clear up a few little things here
1. Irons: 4-pw is what I have
2. I don't like the 3 wood I have now and I'm wanting to simplify whats in my bag. So I'm going for the 4 wood
3. Wedges: Just switched from a 56 and 60 to 58 to simplify and I love the way its workin for me.

I think maybe I'll just play with 13 clubs in the bag for now. Maybe I'll see a club that will make me change my mind but right now it doesn't look like it.

I've been considering taking the 3-wood out of the bag lately and going back to the 60 degree. I have a 17 hybrid that I can hit very straight and it goes pretty far. Since I hit the hybrid straighter and the 3-wood and hybrid are pretty close on distance I've been hitting the hybrid instead of the 3-wood.

My 3-wood tends to slice just a tad to the right and the hybrid goes straight.
