Just had the wife inform me that she spent $500 on a Wii video game. I am making a retalitory strike and getting a set of wedges. That will teach her. Ha ha...

Seriously, been reading the old post here, so be patient guys. I just don't know how to compare these wedges to one another. I am a bogey golfer, I don't strike the ball as well as I would like, I duff, I top, sometimes I cuss at the ball. You get the picture. But I do enjoy the short game and I want to invest in a new set of wedges. I have had this Dunlop set (BeCu I think) brass colored at any rate, for about four years. They were like $39/each, so I am counting on a new set of Vokeys or Cleveland wedges being a nice upgrade. I would like some suggestions. I will have them extended 1.5" or so and have the lie upright 2 degrees if it matters on the model. I am not biased beyond the fact that I want one of these two wedges. These seem to be among the best out there. Just not sure which brand/model would suit my game best. I play my wedges alot as I tee from the whites and hit a pretty long driver. I want a good gap, sand, and lob wedge. I do like to be creative with the lob wedge. Flop shot is something I do a bit more than should, but it is fun. I want a lob wedge suitable for that (most are I suspect) but I was unsure about what bounce would be best if applicable. Buying soon as I get some help. On an island (Nantucket) so I can't go out and look at any clubs. Just need some solid advice and I will get online and get a new set of wedges. Thanks in advance and I apologize for posting what must be a frustrating thread for you old pros.

Been over at TGW site looking at wedges. Got pretty confused about the different bounce options. I see the SW comes in several choices, 10, 16, etc.. Not sure about this and how it would effect using the club on the fairway versus in the bunkers. I guess more is better in the bunkers, but what about the fairways. Also, I am assuming I can be more creative with the lob wedge with the least amount of bounce available. Any help in this area is most appreciated. Since I am begging for info, figured I should at least be specific. Ha ha..

I was in the same shoe a month ago.
It was between the Cleveland CG14 or Vokey's
I went witht he CG14 and have no regrets...

I demo both the 52* at Golf Galaxy...
The CG14 felt the best to me and felt great, on miss hits it still went out there. The Vokey's are nice but was to heavy for me... (which I really really wanted to buy the Vokey's) and on miss hits... they were not forgiving for me.

Your best bet is to go to the store and tape up both of the two wedges and swing away...

By the way I got the CG14 in black peral 52* and 58* was thinking about ditching my MP-60 Pitching wedge and getting a 46* CG14... time will tell

Choosing between cleveland or vokey is like choosing between a BMW and a Mercedes, both are quality but it comes down to personal choice... "Test drive" both and see which one you like best, personaly i like Cleveland and BMW, both in black :)

I agree...both are very good clubs. The one difference I notice in apperance is the Cleveland seem to have a larger face than the Vokeys. If you like the look of one over the other I would choose that one.

As far as the bounce goes do your research and choose accordingly. If your course has tight fairways go with a lower bounce. I like low bounce personally, but it fits my swing. IMO you cant go wrong with either brand.

Don't exclude the possibillity of other manufacturers just because Vokeys/Cleveland are a popular choice. I know you said it may not be possible, but I would try to get my hands on a few and try them out. Most are very good, but some might fit your game better than others. I really like my Callaway X-Forged wedges. But from experience, Mizuno and Taylor Made make good wedges as well. Although Taylors seem to have limited loft/bounce options.

Be patient, try a few out and not necissarily settle for the 'popular' choice.

I appreciate the quick replies. Thanks guys.

I am liking the Cleveland CG12 DSG oil can finish wedges. Anyone familiar with them. Still open to any ideas of course, but like I said, this wedge does catch my eye. Aesthetics to be honest. Not sure if it is the most forgiving offering or not. Likely a forgiving club is what I need above all else.

Sorry, I cant comment on the Clevelands, but I bought a 56° spin milled Vokey (black nickel), and I've loved it so much, I'm seriously tempted to get the 50° and 60° and replace the PW and AW that came with my irons. I personally like the slightly heavier feel to it.

You may also want to look at the Nike SV and VR wedges. I tried both out and really liked them, but decided I needed to quit being so much of a Nike wh0re The good thing about the SV's is that you can most likely find them for at least $30 cheaper than the Vokeys. With that said, I'm still extremely pleased with the Vokey, and dont regret the purchase a single bit. The club just feels right for me.

I've read great things about the Clevelands too though, and I have a good friend that plays their wedges. He's happy with them. I really dont think you can go wrong either way. Good luck on your decision!

I went on a Wedge Hunt a couple months ago. I ended up with Cleveland CG14s. I have since traded my Gap and Lob for Mizuno MP-T Series Pitch (46) and Gap (51). The reason for the change for me was the C Grind Sole, soft responsive feel (forged), and the accuracy I get with them.

I tried the Vokey wedges before deciding on the Mizunos. I got great spin with both! For me, compared to the Cleveland, the spin was better. I did keep my 56 degree CG14 because it is AWESOME out of the bunker! Granted, I still make that old swing (which was the wrong one! lol)...but that's not the club's fault.

In the end, it came down to personal preferrence. Since you are on an island and suffer limited shops, check for a demo day and spend time with the wedges.

I'm a bogey golfer also and looking to improve my short game. I've added the Cleveland Niblick to my bag this year. You should consider it. Also wanted a Sand Wedge and decided on a 58* 12 bounce CG12. Finally, I have a 64* LW. I'm not real comfortable opening my club face up wide on my shots therefore I went towards the higher loft clubs, 58* instead of 56* and 64* instead of 60*.

There will likely be those out there who will mock the choice of the Niblick but I'm not one to make my club decisions based on the snickers of others. The Niblick is a really handy little club.

I got my CG14's last year.

I love them! I think they're a little easier to hit than the CG12's and are a bit bigger, but still look beautiful at address and the feel...love it!

Unless you are only carrying 13 clubs... dont waste your money on a niblick... you have an 8 iron already. They serve the same purpose and share the same loft.

Ignorance at its finest.

If you are cost conscious go after the Adams 3 wedge set for $100... if not try out clevelands, callaways, vokeys and mizunos... you really cant go wrong with any of them at your level.
