I have been hitting EVERYTHING off the hossel lately. Went to golf tech last night, and got a swing diagnosis. Video showed me too close to the ball at set up, coming too steep on downswing, and the club face was WIDE OPEN at impact. He tweaked my setup, which got my swing closer to being on plane. I went out to the range and started hitting 3/4 shots with my irons. They went dead straight. If i took a full swing I would shank it. As for now, i will stay with the 3/4 swing and progressivly move towards a full swing. Problem is, i tried to trasfer this technique to the driver but i got absolutely no success in doing so. (Topped everything or hit it dead left on the ground about 10 yards) Why wont this work with the driver?????

It should work for the driver (all clubs for that matter) but you must account for the length of shaft, distance from the ball and ball position. So same idea just w/ adjustments.

Everyone hits off the hosel from time to time for most along time to time haha... trust me when I say this guy, its not in your "swing" this problem has to be in your body movements, obviously your coach is overlooking the most important part and that is what your mid and lower body is doing.... I can promise you your moving around wayyyy to much and losing balance. best way to loose the shanks is the old school way, both feet together as in touching and make full swings hitting the ball. Cheers

I have the Callaway X 460 driver and I have slowed down on my swing and I have been hitting the ball straight about 200-300 yards. Yesterday my new Callaway FT I square head came in, both are 9 loft, and I stated with my wedges to warm up, then to my X 460 which was going straight as usual, then I try the FTI out and the ball travels much higher, and it goes a little further, but at the end it slices. I looked at the club head and I am hiiting just a little off the sweet spot towards the shaft. I then go back to the X 460 and I am slicing that club now lso. Maybe I should slow my swing because I may have started to swing to hard with the new club, step in a little towards the ball????

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
