I joined last month and live in Dayton, OH. I play primarily at Kittyhawk golf club and currently have a 17 handicap index.

Heatherwoode, Yankee Trace and Windy Knoll (I think my favorite of the 3) take to to Dayton about 3-4 times a year. Some good golf between Dayton and Cincinnati as well (Weatherwax is a course we do a day o' 36 every year). So, you've got that going for you...which is nice.

We definitely have some nice ones around here. I haven't played Weatherwax, but I hear it is nice. I joined the City of Dayton courses this year since our league is at Kittyhawk. I think my fovorite courses are NCR South and Walnut Grove CC when I get the opportunity to play them. Has anyone ever played Majestic Springs which is close to Waynesville? This is a hidden gem IMO.

I know it's a long shot, but were you in the Marine Corps? One of my long lost friends who lives(d) in Dayton is named Carl, and I haven't spoke to him in years.

I play Majestic Springs 2-3 times a year. It's always a fun course to play with some interesting holes. However, the last couple times we played there last year the course was not in good shape. It's always been subject to 'iffy' conditions when the weather has not been perfect.

CarlSpackler is just my screen name (after the great greens keeper in Caddy Shack). My real name is Shane.

I haven't played it for a few years, but it seems that most of the public courses can get pretty fried in the summer when they don't water for whatever reason. I know that the City of Dayton courses are pretty bad about this. Trampoline effect there more accurately describes what happens when your ball hits the putting surface from an approach shot.

I've only lived here a year and a half (moved up from North Georgia) so I still haven't played many of the courses around here. I keep hearing great things about Weatherwax and keep threatening to go out there but haven't made it yet. I have a friend that lives on Yankee Trace and he keeps promising to play with me out there but it hasn't happened yet. Another friend of mine is a member at Heatherwood (also a great course from what I hear). Some day soon I'll make it out there. Another friend is a volunteer at Community and keeps promising to take me there. If all these friends ever make good on their promises I've got some really great golf in my future.

So far the only courses I've played regularly are Mound (almost daily), Pipestone (couple of times a month) and Jamaica Run (once a week or so). Another friend of mine works at Pleasant Hill in Middletown. We played out there once last summer and I loved it. Really nice course. About once a month or so I meet a friend up at Penn Terra in Lewisburg. It's kind of a goat track really but the greens are extremely challenging. Great place to hone your putting skills. When my short game needs a little extra work I go to Clear Creek at The Practice Center in Franklin. Very fun and difficult par 3 course. And, last but not least, I played once at AK Steel park in Middletown. That's another great par 3 course. They recently sold it to Warren County so it's a public course now. I need to get out there again. I thoroughly enjoyed it the last time, but then I would thoroughly enjoy golfing in a cow pasture so what do I know?

Penn Terra, aka Preble Beech (since it is located in Preble County) was the first course I played as a youngster. Ahh the memories. It is in decent shape for the low cost of playing there. Beechwood outside of Arcanum is another nice course up in the northern part of the area that I would recommend you try out.

I would be happy to meet up with you at Community, or Madden even, if you are interested in playing either one. I work Mon - Fri, so I am limited to evenings and weekends, but just PM me if you are interested.

I went to college out there. Had a friend who worked at Country Club of the North...pretty good course and we could get on for free on Mondays. I also liked playing Bevercreek Golf Club and National Golf Links in Springfield.

I haven't played either, and you can't beat free.

I am going to be playing Greene CC pretty soon. I have certificates that allow non-members to play at the guest rate Tue-Thur or Sun after 2 PM. If anyone in the area is interested, I can email you a copy of the form (which is permitted BTW).
