My best score to date was a 89, today I shattered that with a 83

I have been hanging around 92, 90, 89 for a while waiting for it to click and today it did.

When I arrived the last group of a 4 man scramble tournament had just left the first green and I had the course to myself so I went off as a single.

I left the tee cold, not a single ball or putt stroked on the practice tee. After the first hole (a par) I did have to wait on most shots but I used the time to plan the shot and think things over. With no one behind me I felt completely relaxed and shot a 40 on the front 9.

At #10 I was waiting on the tee again when another single in a cart joined me. I really wanted to keep playing alone but it was the polite thing to do to allow him to join. Both our tee shots were fine but he had to hit his second shot first, he pushed it, got really mad and started yelling at himself. My second shot was out of a fairway bunker and I hit the green. His 3rd shot was way short and the yelling/bad mouthing himself started again I was thinking, please no, not today !!!

At #11 I blew my tee shot and the hole went down hill from there. I ended up with a seven. I stopped for a minute and had a internal talk with myself "self, you better not let this yelling screw you up or your gonna be really disappointed at the end of the day". I pulled myself together and ended up shooting a 43 on the back 9.

The 7 on #14 was a heart breaker... I missed a GIR left by 3 feet and the ball ended up in a bunker with hard pan sand/dirt. It had to be the worst bunker on the course. The ball rolled up onto the collar of the bunker and it was full of weeds and it was a horrid lie. I made a bad chip and then 3 putter for a 7

Here is the card with 10 pars !!! :)

Good round man - keep working at it and eventually you'll be pissed about shooting an 83

Congradulations, great job. You are on your way to be a scratch golfer. I would love to break 90.

Congrats......an 83 is an outstanding round of golf.

Don't be disheartened if you don't immediately repeat it, but rather try to keep the "happy" thoughts that you had throughout the round going forward.

Well done!

Congrats......This will keep you on a high for the whole golf season.

I too had a milestone, on Saturday, I had 18 par putts. While I did not hit every green I did have a par putt on all 18 greens.

Thanks guys... It was a great feeling and it seemed so easy!

I played again today unexpectedly, my lumber supplier called me and invited me to play a course I had never played before, it was ugly, but I had fun.

The course was much harder, 72.1/136, and a lot of lost shots where course management mistakes. 47 on the front, 52 on the back.

Congrats on the 83! I notice you had a few sand saves and a bunch of GIR. Eventually those two putts will be one putts and you'll be bragging about your 5 birdies and 8 pars instead of 10 pars!

Sweet, I went out today and shot a 86 at the course I shot the 83 on.
Last week I shoot an 99 but it was a much harder course and that dropped my handicap 1/10 to a 19.1

With today's score my handicap dropped to a 18.9

congrats. im "waiting for it to click" as well. i can shoot low 90s on a good day, but i always have 1 (sometimes two!) blow-up holes that end up 7s or (gasp) 8s. i just need on my mental game, im very happy with my swing and shot shapes.

how do you keep your cool and keep from worrying too much about each shot?

You mean the larger font... you can edit your .CSS file and change colors, font sizes etc. I don't have it on this computer but I can email it to you if you want it.

What helped me the most was forcing myself to keep it in play as best I can. I also stopped with the 60 degree wedge hero shots around the green . Sometimes you have to use the 60 but I only use it now if I have no other choice. I have come to love the open stance/putting stroke style bump and run with a 9i or pitching wedge. Not sexy, but it works for me.
