Fear of 2I, 3I, 4I and LW

I have experimented with hybrids and never could get the hang of them and I don't carry a 3 iron. I hit my 4 iron 170-175 and hit a full out 5 wood 205. I can grip down on the 5 and place the ball a little forward and hit a high fade 180 as a consistant shot. I guess it doesn't matter what your hitting as long as there isn't a big gap in distances. As far as a 60* I have read that they are tough to hit. I didn't notice a big problem but then again mine has only 4* of bounce. I think bounce with that much loft might have something to do with the difficulty.

the 60* is my low bounce wedge. That's basically how I treat it. I could probably get along with 2 56*'s, one high bounce, one low bounce, but having the extra loft helps as well for some finesse shots and out of the sand. I guess swing speed has a bit to do with using the lw as well and requires some speed to use effectively.

Heck, I bet there are pros who have a fear of hitting the 2 iron.

They all require a downward strike to perform well. This can be tough for a lot of people to wrap their minds around with these clubs. I try to hit down on my 3-iron as much as for my PW. I end up taking less of a divot because the extra club length flattens out the plane with a 3-iron. But I'm trying just as hard to hit down on it. The only time I don't hit "down" on it is when I need to flop it with my 60. That is, I still hit down on it, but I let the clubhead catch up more with my hands before impact to give it a little more loft. I can't think of a time you would ever want to do this with a 3-iron.

I was horrible with my 3&4 irons, so when I bought new clubs I got 3&4 Hybrids. I love them. My 3 iron intimidated me so much, I barely carried it. Now with my Hybrid, i've got a ton of confidence. If I can just get my driver and 52&56* to do what I want most of the time, i'll cut off 5-6 strokes average.
