Some great players barely take divots at all.
Some great players take door mats.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

I cannot imagine what kind of athletic skill and practice dedication you would need to hit down and pick the ball clean consistently.

I know I could never do it! I tried, though... Once I switched to taking divots I got a lot more consistency.

I have been trying to take proper divots for the past month. My coach has me working on hitting a punch shot to get the right attack on the ball. Each club will have a different attack because of the length and the speed, but its been working very well

The swing paths are different for different players.

Byron Nelson must have been shallow because they said his divots were thin like dollar bills.

Sometimes Nicklaus wouldn't take a divot at all (shallow path), other times big ones (steeper). I think it had alot to do with the spin and trajectory they were seeking on a particular shot.
