Hey, I have been working on getting rid of my lunging or dipping and im having trouble getting rid of it. Currently, I lunge into the ball causing my wrists to be late and for myself to take a very large divot. My goal is to get rid of the lunge so my wrists can "snap" through the ball and i wont hit a chunker. Any suggestions or drills would be much appreciated. Thanks
Steve

one trick my teacher made me do was having a ball under my left heel. This will stabilize your lower body and force you more to turn than lunge. Other thing is to imagine a wall where the ball is (perpedicular to the target) and make sure during the swing your head doesn't go through it.
I'd recommend to work on it with a teaching pro watching, both of these tips might get you into a reverse pivot or eliminate weight transfer is overdosed

He's lunging down at the ball, not out towards it or forward.

This could have to do with ball placement in your stance. I could also have to do with excessive knee bend, bending from the waist instead of hips i.e. being hunched over the ball. If you don't feel like your wrists are getting through, perhaps you are taking the club back and through on too flat a plain (the "stuck wrist" position).

For starters, move the ball little by little forward in your stance. For a drill, try taking a broom and taking practice swings to get a "swoosh" or a sweep feel through the hitting area. That should help you train your release some.

Is this an issue mainly with short irons?

Its not an issue for all clubs, its a move that i subconciously developed while having a flat swinging plane. I have done the "swooshing" drill but I cant seem to get a feel for it.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
