Went to the driving range again today and hit almost every club decently.

My biggest problem is the 5 wood, i have a new 08 taylormade burner and for some reason the club gives me fits. Every third or fourth swing, i will hit the ball solid and about 200 yds. I would attribute most of the mistakes to my swing, but my friend has a cleveland hi-bore 5 wood which i hit consistanlty solid shots with. Out of about 7 balls i had 1 bad one with the cleveland...

Any help would be appreciated.

you could just feel more confident with the cleveland
possibly you like the way it looks or feels
and the shaft is a possibility

It won't be the shaft.

If your swing is inconsistent it's just a lottery. You could hit 50 balls with any club, irrespective of shaft or shaft flex and you'll hit a few good ones, a few great ones and a lot of ordinary ones. The fact that the club is not suited to you will not result in awful shots. The starting point is a square face at impact. Once you get to a more advanced level you can start to fine tune with shafts. Let's not blame a shaft because someone hits some bad shots on the practice tee. That comes A LOT later.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.
