Where to play in/near Palo Alto?

I just moved down here for the summer and am used to the $10 Davis Muni. Anyone know of a reasonably priced, but still challenging course? I'd rather pay $30-40 for a challenge than 15-20 for playing a football field. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Silicon Gulch! I'm not $15-20 is an option down here except for late twilight rates anyway. Palo Alto muni's a wide open grip it n rip it track and not particularly challenging unless it's windy. Shoreline is not bad but it's a mine field of goose and mud hen shit. Crystal Springs is OK too. Suggest the ncga directory... some good tracks depending on how far you're willing to drive.

      Day 51 (yesterday was 50, not 59 -- that was a typo).  I didn't have a ton of time today.  I hit a dozen balls with a 6-iron in my practice room.   Amazingly, after this I did the ShotScope analysis of yesterday's round;  my approach play was at the 5 hcp level.  That's pretty darn good, but unfortunately for my score, some of that came from hitting a few good recovery shots.  But I also hit some really good approach shots that weren't from trouble!

      Shot a 37 today! Palmer Course, PGA National. Really fun. 6/9 GIR, no lost balls. The double and the bogey were both three putts from like 35 feet or so.  The birdie at the last was really fun. I stood over that fifteen footer and thought wow I’m really about to make this, aren’t I? And I hearted it. Really fun. It’s like 9000 degrees outside but I battled through it well. Good times.

      I had been in a bit of a slump for the month of June. Handicap index has slowly risen, and there were few sub-80 scores. Today was a different story at Leslie Park GC. Lots of solid shots, GIR's, up & downs, for a 77 (7.8 differential). As with most rounds, there were a few loose shots and crappy putts, but it was a good day.
