I switched out my Callaway Big Bertha Warbird 5W for a cleveland launcher 2i Hybrid and it's so much more versatile...longer and more accurate than the 5W out of just about any lie. just my opinion but i love it so far. i've always been into woods and thought the hybrid clubs were the dark side...glad i went

I just recently got my first hybrids, a 3 and 4 to replace the same in irons. So far I've been very happy with them. Easy to hit, long, and forgiving. I never had a huge problem with my long irons, but the hybrids are easier for sure and a little longer too I think. Overall I really like them. They feel great and fly nice...what more can you ask.

For me, hybrid is way easier than any woods when ball is in rough. I do take-away low and slow for woods to get better impact. But with hybrid, my swing is more like irons and it gets the ball up easily and cleanly.

If a ball is in rough, low take-away is not ideal where a lot of rough gets between club and the ball. So I use hybrid and swing same as irons. Results are much better than using woods.

I find hybrids to be a lot more useful because they are so much more versatile and easy to hit.
Fairway, rough, sand; you can do it all with a hybrid. Also, while you may be able to, "whack" a long iron, you could do the same with a hybrid without needing to, "whack" the ball. You could just make a nice, easy swing and get the same result.
Hybrids arent for everyone though. Some people dont like them and much prefer fairway woods or long irons to hybrids.
All you can do is try one out and see how you like it.

I've gone around the loop with hybrids. At present I only have 2 in the bag. A 17* Nicket and a 22* Bridgestone Air Muscle, (I call it a hybrid iron b/c of the iron design as opposed to the regular rescue club, like my Nicket). I'm think'n of changing the Nicket to another Air Muscle, (they come in 2 and 3 iron lofts).

The reason I've been moving away from rescue clubs is b/c most of them only have one shot, which is getting up fast and high, whereas the Air Muscle(s) are more versitle, but not as easy to hit. However what the rescue clubs do better than any other club is putting off of the frog hair.

Blades4me is giving you a good idea, if you are hesitant to go "full hybrid aka regular rescue club" why not demo first the hybrid iron types (like airmuscles and mizuno mp fli-hi) you'll get the feel of an iron with the forgiveness a hybrid offers. You can test this side by side with a regular rescue club and your long irons and compare.

I had the mp fli-hi in 21*, it was a great club, versatile- but as club ho's are wont to do sometimes- made the mistake of selling it. My only complaint is that i needed something tha can handle the roughs better back then as all my tee shots then went into the rough. Now that I am finding the fairway more often I am starting to miss it.

The damn things oughta be illegal.

I went over to the dark side about a year ago. Pulled the 2 iron and the 4 iron. I still keep the 3 iron because I find it easier to work and flight than the hybrids which just tend to go high and straight.

My bag looks like it belongs on the high school girls golf team now, but be that as it may, I'll never go back.

I can't hit them, I tried several different manufactors hybrids, and don't like them. I'm sticking with a 5 wood and a 3 iron.

For me they don't play like a wood nor do they play like an iron, so I was never comfortable hitting them and had horrible results.

I'm with you. I'm not saying I couldn't hit them, I just couldn't hit them good enough to justify replacing anything else in the bag. I think we're in the minority though...

I see lots of these hybrids in play. The people who do play them love them, and that's good.... for them. I have a Tour Edge 3 hybrid in my garage, it was one of my many gotta get it now sticks. I'll pull it out occasionally and swing it in the back yard. Damn it feels good.... until I put a ball in front of it...

I actually went the opposite way. When I bought a new set of irons, I wanted to play with the long irons and I actually hit them much higher than my hybrids. Might have been partially due to the x100's, but then again, I have always been a high ball hitter. I get more workability out of the long irons and it's even more versatile and easier to shape, which I really like to do. If you can hit your long irons just fine, keep them. But if it's even a bit harder to use, go with the hybrid. The easier, the better.
