I generally golf quite early in the mornings. We're talking 5:30 or 6 am. The fairways are often wet and the greens soft (at least for the first 6 or 7 holes). Also, if it rained the night before, it can really be soft out there.

I assume, in these type conditions, I'd be better off playing a higher lofted driver correct?

I don't have much experience with this...but I'm curious as to why would you want to play a shorter club when the ball isn't going to roll out very much at all in the first place. I would probably go with less loft on the driver to try and combat the slow and soft fairways. Just my 2 pennies.

What he means is that he's thinking the higher loft will result in more carry vs. the lower lofted driver which will make the ball hit the ground sooner and there won't be much rollout because of the soft fairways.

Yes. He will probably still get the same amount of distance, but a little bit more since he will be using the 12.5º driver.

Exactly.

This makes sense to me. Today I was lucky if I got one little bounce and that's it. No roll out at all. Guess there is only one way to find out for sure. Maybe I'll pull my 7 Wood and play with 2 drivers. Weather up here has not been good. Actually have frost warnings tonight and tomorrow night. Friggin June and still putting up with frost. Anyway, thanks for the input.

Id doesnt make sense to me, but thats because I went from a high lofted ping, to a 9.5* driver, and i get longer drives with lower ball flight because of it. Before I started taking lessons, the higher loft was beneficial, but now, with 6 hours of lessons in this year, my carry is averaging 275 yards, with a 25+ yard bounce. This up from 240 average just a month ago.

I've used the rapture a few times since to compare, and also my SQ 5900, which was a lower loft. I get way more distance with the Titleist 9.5 with better accuracy. the 5900 is as long, but way less consistent ball flight.

Im confident enough with the 9.5 that I gave the Rapture away to my dad for fathers day, and the Nike to my brother.

Oddly enough, where I had no luck with the Nike in terms of accuracy, my brother hits straight, and quite long with it. Averaging a little less than I was with. But I am also a little stronger and faster. Not bragging, just good genetics, and we've tested the theory many times. lol.

I think you would be better playing the lower lofted driver if you can hit it. You will get a more penetrating ball flight and longer carry if hit well. If struggling with the 10.5 go for a 11.5 you will be amazed at the difference a degree makes!

Sounds like a good plan, but you need to actually make sure you hit the higher lofted one higher. I went from a 10 to an 8.5 and due to an improving swing or the shaft I hit the 8.5 quite a bit higher (I am also able to fade it which I wasn't able to do with the 10 which had a regular shaft - I think a fade is generally a higher type ball flight)

early this spring i wondered the same thing. i have 10.5 and 9.5 degree drivers and hit the 9.5 maybe 10-15 yards further normally but am not sure on real wet fairway conditions, where there is no roll. decided to use the 9.5 due to somewhat windy conditions in addition to the wet.

was that a real dog?

    • Day 47: simulator day! Played St. Andrew’s and shot a +1. Not bad, especially with having to putt at this simulator set up. Had about 5 minutes at the end to work on some feels as well.
    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.

    • So the question was posed today by some of my friends.  Is a pitch mark the same as a divot?  I thought NO, but they argued if your ball lands in another player's divot (made by club during a swing) this was the same as a pitch mark, i.e. the ball mark made when the ball lands
