I've been looking at irons in the local golf shop and one thing seems to always bug me: I hate when the club's top line (I believe that is the term) is thick. To me, it looks so aesthetically unpleasing, clunky and uncomfortable. It's more prominent in GI irons, but most blades feel/look thick, too. The only club I've held that feels good is the Nike VR blade. The top line looks so much thinner than other clubs at address. Obviously they're waaaay out of my league, and by no means is the following statement ultimately true, but it gives them a MUCH more comfortable and easy-to-use feeling. Does anyone know of any solid GI irons with a thin top line?

Ha if you hate thick top edges make sure you stay away from all the x series irons from Callaway. They are a bit overboard, took alot of getting used to but they look normal to me now.

My Big Berthas have a thick top line and i dont like the look of them. The mizuno mx200s have a thinner top line than most GI irons, says Todays Golfer magazine.
I am getting some mp52s soon which have a thin top line, but the bottom of them are quite thick and they are cavity back. But for a 36 handicapper, i think the mx200s are a possibility, but best try them out first - i have seen a 14 handicapper on here who asked whether the mx200s may be too much of a better players iron for him

Some of the newer Wilson irons have thin top lines. Ci7 I believe? There are a couple out there from them, I was actually debating on picking up a set too.

Not either version of the x-forged, or the tour authentic x-blades which are razor thin. But yeah, the x22/x20 tour are about as clunky as players irons can possibly be.

I have that same opinion about thick toplines. I have the Bridgestone GC.Mids which has a thin topline, great feel, and is still plenty forgiving. The Adams A4 has a pretty thin topline also and it's forged.

yep. i had a set of the Bridgestone GC Mids too. and yes, they do have thin toplines. you can also get them ULTRA cheap on ebay right now (under $200). they are great irons imo

wilson Pi5's or Pi7's, and the Ci's that were mentioned above my post.

little biased here with the wilsons, but thin toplines was a major deal for me when selecting irons as well. I think you're simply looking for a more traditional clubhead, and I think you'll have an easy time finding a wide range of manufacturers who provide that if you perform a search on the net or visit a larger shop.

What blades were you looking at with a thick top line? Haven't seen too many blades with a thick top line.

nor have i all blades have thinner toplines than any other club

Yes, blades certainly do have a thinner top line than GI clubs, but almost all I've seen still seem uncomfortably fat to me. The Nike VR blades feel good, but I can't find any other club, blade or GI, that has a similar top line. I'm looking for other club suggestions that match...

And the MX-200s don't feel thin :\ The next best club (to the VR blades) I like in terms of address appearance is the MP-52s

I have the Mizuno MP32 and they've got a pretty thin top line as do most Mizuno blades.

Are you sure you're not confusing the term "blades" with "forged?" I've heard people, for whatever reason think those two terms are synonymous. If you're not confusing the terms, I would love for you to show me a true "blade" with a thick top line. You've got me curious.

Ya, Im unintentionally using blade and forged interchangeably here, but I have seen a number of them I didn't like. The Titleist ZMs are blades, right? And I also saw some Hogans I thought were blades too (btw, I love the overall design of the Hogans). And again, I'm not saying the top lines of these clubs ARE fat. I'm saying they seem too fat TO ME to fit an ideal comfort FOR ME.

A lot of older cavity backs have thin top lines. They might not be as GI and forgiving as the newer clubs but if it's that important to you then you might want to look at older clubs. The Wilsons already mentioned would be a good bet too.

I think as long as they aren't excessively fat you should be able to get used to them. I don't like thick top lines either and it was a big consideration when getting a new set of clubs for me. The set I ended up with, Nickent 4DX pros, have slightly thicker top lines than the set I was using but they're nowhere near as bad as most GI clubs and they don't bother me at all.

I recently played with a guy who used Honma irons. They looked like game improvement irons, with deep cavities and medium/large heads but at the top of the face where the thick top line of a Ping or Callaway iron would be visible at address, a chamfer had been cut across giving the top line a significantly thinner look. I've no idea what impact this has on the forgiveness of the iron but if insignificant, it's a neat solution to improving the visual aspect of the club whilst retaining most of the game improvement meat. - Sorry I didn't pay attention to which particular detailed model of club they were.

Yeah the Titleist Z's are blades or as some call them "muscle back" as are the Titleist 690 MB's. The Titleist AP2's for example, are not blades but they are "forged."

The term "forged" just simply deals with the manufacturing process used to shape the head.
And again, I'm not saying the top lines of these clubs ARE fat. I'm saying they seem too fat TO ME to fit an ideal comfort FOR ME.

Got ya
