How do you decide? I would be looking at the J36 combos. The both feel good. I hit both with the Project X 6.0's. I think I would probably go with the 5.5's. I hit the 6.0's pretty good, but they seemed like the leaked to the right.

I can't decide!!!

If you ever want to trade them in. I bet Callaway club would have a better resale. Plus the j36 asthetics look kinda a weird to me, but that doesn't me anything. I couldn't tell you either way performance wise. Blades might be fun with the bridgestones, but ultimately maybe the price should determine.

How solid is your ball-striking? The bridgestones will definitely be much less forgiving.

I am not too worried about trading them in as I am still playing the same clubs I bought in 1996! Nothing is worth much after that long. Both look good to me. Blades would be fun methinks. Not sure if I am good enough yet, but I hit the 6 iron good in a blade.

Pretty decent. There wasn't much of a difference on the range between the x-22, the cavity back j36's and the blade 36's all in a 6 iron. I hit off the mat and off grass. The cavity backs and the tours were a little ahead in hitting it straight and were a little longer, but I wasn't spraying the ball with the blade.

Before I purchased my AP2's I tried the bridgestone j36 combos. and found that I disliked the forgivness with a passion. Personally I would go with the callaways as I was an owner of the x20 tour set and loved them

i like both of those sets. if it were me, i would go with the Bridgestone J36 combos first. but the X22 Tours are nice too. if the 6.0's leak a little to the right, I think I'd go with the 5.5's. but Im not a club-fitter, so i dont know for sure

as far as shaft wise go, how high are you getting the 6.0's?

I was getting them up there a bit. Not much roll out on the 6 iron shots.

For forgiveness, get the x22s. If you want more workability, go for the j36. I haven't tried the x22 tours yet, but the x20 tours I didn't like half as much as the j36.

I think I would go with some custom combos as I like the cavity back better than the pocket cavity. My shop has a set 3-6 cavity back and 7-p blade.

Callaways would make ordering easier. I wouldn't have to figure out any combos. All the bridgestone combos on ebay have 3-5 pc 6-8 cavity and 9-p blade.

I hit the 22's. I didn't like the uniflex shaft.

I think Callaway x-22 tour maybe a nice choice, because i had one and hit very well.

No thanks, I don't buy fakes!

Absolutely the truth. The J36's are, IMHO, aesthetically pleasing and set up much nicer then the X-22's. However, the J36's tend to penalize you much more on slight mishits. The X-22's did not make it to my "final four" list when I was searching for the perfect set last year because of the bulky top line. Both are great clubs and either should serve you well. Good luck!

What combo do you have?

(4) Pocket Cavity

(5-6) Cavity Back (7-P) Blade But if I had to do it all over again I would eliminate the Pocket Cavity all together and go with (4-6) Cavity Back and (7-P) Blades.

(4) Pocket Cavity

If I go that route it will be the 4-6 cavity back and 7-9 blades.

I bought an old Macgreror MT 7i blade from goodwill the other day. I hit if for a while in the back yard comparing to my DCI OS+ gold 7i. It was just a small sample, but I hit it more consistently straight that my DCI. The DCI went longer, but I can attribute that to it being about an inch longer. I don't know if I can convince myself I am a good enough ball striker to play the blades though...

The 7i blade experiment in the back yard(rough) didn't translate well to a more fairway type shot. The J36's are out. I tried out some Adams Idea Pro golds today and I couldn't hit them that well. They were a great price at $499 though. I found a place to try out the regular x-22 head with the project x shaft. That is my jam!!

I have made up my mind to go with the regular X-22 with the Project X 5.5's.

    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
    • Day 1 - 2025-12-20 Starting a new streak, of at least 1. With rain dumping for the next week in the north bay area, I'll be a lot of outdoor net work and maybe some putting. About 10 minutes of 7 iron work, focused on the usuals: weight transfer, keeping hands behind me. I'll have more time in the coming days for video review and maybe some Hack Motion.
