On the game side I really like hitting a good approach shot into the green. At my level I'm stoked if I can hit it within 20-30 feet of the pin from 100-120m out. Hitting the green from the tee on par 3's is great too!

On the social side I really like how you can get paired up with total strangers and they'll be rooting for you on those long putts, birdie chances etc and vice versa.

Today, I completely muffed a kinda ruffed up ProV1 that I found in a round last week into very very tall grass. When I went to search for it, I couldn't find it. However, I did find a new ProV1x, in excellent condition. Not too shabby if I may say.

The suspense of when your ball is tracking the pin in the air and you're muttering "be right, c'mon baby, be right", and the elation that comes afterwards when it is.

Today, I experienced this for the first time in my 2-year golfing career.

16th hole, 125 yards out, pitching wedge. I changed the placement of my club head on the ball because I was having the worst round of the year. I make contact with the ball and this thing absolutely soars up in the air, I'm talking about, the highest shot I've ever hit. It's in the air for a good 10 seconds or so, the type of professional shot that I've always envied seeing other golfers on the course hit. While it's in the air I'm saying to myself, c'mon make it there, don't go short. Turns out, I hit the ball about 9 feet past the pin with about a foot of ProV1 spin back. Obviously I missed the par put but at that point in my awful round, I didn't even care. I was just happy enough to know that there is a glimmer of hope for my next round.

As a high HC, walking up to my ball and thinking what should I do, and then trying something new and having it work. Matters not if it's on a snowman hole, or for those ultra rare birdies.

1.) I love the overall golf culture. I mean people encouraging one another, etiquette, the behavior of golf pros compared to that of other sports, unwritten rules like buying everyone a round after an Ace, just the intangible stuff that makes golf different.
2.) I love being outside. The idea of playing such a precision oriented game in an uncontrolled environment is really cool I think.
3.) My favorite part about actually playing is that moment while your ball is in flight after hitting an approach shot that you think has a chance of going in. It doesn't matter if it is a long shot or a short one to me. The feeling I get in that moment is indescribable!

The previous weekend on my first time on a real golf course, I shot a 103. This past Friday, we went out again and my front 9 round of 53 wasn't looking good. I was determined to play well and my tee shot on 16th par 4 went farther and straighter than I've ever hit it. I made par on that whole and the remaining two to lock in my 47 for the backround. If I'd only scored better on the front I would have finally broken 100.

When I got home and entered my stats into the Scorecard software, I realised I had added wrong on the front 9 and really got a 52 for a final score of 99!!!!

That's the best thing about being a poor player, there is only room to improve.

I just like playing with my dad. We just have fun together even if we are kicking the ball around the course and not playing well. For whatever reason, I still feel like I'm trying to go out of my to impress him with my game and shotmaking ability, even at age 32, which often costs me about 4-5 shots per round. Oh well. I cherish the opportunities to do something athletic while he still has the ability to get out and play regularly.

I agree. My friend and I were playing on Friday and the threesome ahead let us play through on a par 3. One of the members of the group was nice enough to give me the yardage from his rangefinder. I proceed to knock an 8-iron right over the flag, it backs up a little to give me a 6-footer. I then roll the putt in for a birdie, with a gallery watching.

The best feeling is when you're looking all throughout the rough to find your ball, only to find it on the green/in the cup

never seen a beer cart chick (must play the wrong courses); there's time yet I hope

you my friend are missing out on a bevy of beauties dispensing the iced cold nectar of life from a refrigerated golf cart...

even if its a powerade its well worth their overpricing plus tip... heck a few choice courses around here even have hotdogs and snacks on their beercarts

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
