So while I was looking for a driver for my father in law the other day, I stumbled across this listing for a used Taylormade XR-03 driver. It sold for $406 ... WTF.

I bought this same driver on ebay about 2 years back for $65. When I bought it, I honestly had no clue about the technology or it being illegal (not that I am going to be playing any tournaments).

What do you guys know about this driver? Is it really worth that much?

In my stand bag:
Driver: XR-03
Irons: Apex Edge CFT (5-E)
Hybrids: Apex Edge CFT (3-4)
Wedge: Sure Out LWPutter: BombshellShoes: University

Anyone know anything about this driver?

my mate had one - think he got rid of it because it was going to be illegal. His version anyway. Was a pretty good driver but it's been outdated at this stage.

that seller sells the illegal .860+ COR drivers. anything over a .830 COR is illegal. they are supposed to be longer than the .830 COR drivers.
a simple way to explain it is The coefficient of reinstitution (COR) is a physical measurement of how much energy is returned when two objects collide (the head and the ball)..100% cor would return all the energy..imagine if you drop a ball from 6 feet..it would bounce back up to a height of 6 feet..this is actually impossible. so a clubhead with .830 cor will return 83% of the energy...an .870 cor will return 87% and so on.
also, Tom Wishon Golf did some pretty extensive studies and came up with the conclusion that at a swing speed of 90 mph each 1% of cor related to an extra 4.2 yards of distance..and this would increase with higher swing speed...so in this case @90mph with a 3% COR difference..distance added should be 12.6 yards, etc, etc, etc

what is the highest COR driver ever created? The ERC from Callaway is illegal as well, but I never found out what the COR was.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Is the club really worth that much though?

its the ERC+ and ERC Hot versions that are illegal. the plain old ERC Fusion is not illegal. and i believe the highest COR driver ever made was the Wishon Golf .900COR driver that came out about 3 or 4 years ago or so. Most of the others are .860 or .870-ish

it is if its worth it to you. some people swear by the higher cor drivers and say they give them 20-30 extra yards. and since they arent made anymore, plus the ones he is selling are in very good condition, who knows? they sell for a lot all the time, so they must be worth it to a lot of people.

he clearly states that the driver is illegal in his auctions. and a lot of people just play for fun, and therefore do not care if they are illegal. if they dont play in tournaments, and they just play with friends, then its no big deal. and when we get older, we could always use an extra 20 yards, heh. the .860 COR drivers were readily available in the UK up until last year when they were banned. Im surprised you dont see them used in pro shops over there? i bet you can probably get them MUCH cheaper than we can over here

I'm tempted to sell mine since I could use the extra cash. I'm probably not good enough to even really notice the extra distance. My longest so far with it was 260 yards and I know I don't really swing all that hard.

I'd probably be just as good with any other driver.
