I have some macgregor jack nicklaus classic irons that i hit well. But i only have a 3 ,6 and 9. I have checked ebay many a time to find a full set with no luck. I tried hitting my friends irons (not blades) and thats not pretty. So i was wondering if i got a newer set of blades would the transition be easy?

A 36 index hitting blades? I think you may need to reconsider.

IIRC, if you don't put a handicap in, the default is 36. Regardless, modern day blades aren't just for the pros anymore. If you have a decent repeatable swing, the modern muscleback blades are pretty sweet. However, just because you can't hit one "Game Improvement" iron, doesn't mean you should rule them all out.

I started out the same way, learned on blades. I couldn't hit GI type irons well at first because it wasn't what I was used to. Trust me, the GIs will do much more for you than trying to stick with blades

It can be tough to transition but I did it and the GI irons are much better for my swing. I've played blades for last 10 years or so (only played a few times a year though) and I thought I hit them pretty well. Sure, i had some bad shots but when I hit them well they were beautiful. When I got serious about golf again I decided to get some GI irons and went with Ping G5. Hard to get used to at first with the thicker sole and topline and especially the offset. Now that I'm used to them a little more though the goods shots are still good but the bad shots are not nearly as bad. I can tell when I'm a little off but the ball still flies pretty nice in most cases and currently I really appreciate the forgiveness they offer.

You tried one set of clubs and suddenly can only hit blades? Get your swing checked up and find a pro store to test clubs in. If you can't hit anything but blades it's a swing fault.

A full set is really overrated. With your awesome swing, you should be hone your shotmaking such that you can manufacture any kind of shot with those three clubs. Add a putter and a driver and you are all set. A lot lighter to carry as well.

I learned on blades and hit them forever. I'm not hitting blades now and it's taken some getting used to but you can do it. I'm a club longer now with the irons (AP2's) and getting more consistant as I get used to them

I'd imagine most blade players hit the ball fairly high on the clubface, whereas alot of game improvement irons have a very low center of gravity and do well hitting the lower grooves. Just a speculation. Also, hitting the sweetspot on a cavity back isn't as 'sweet' as the butter feel with forged blades.

i think you all toook my title a little to seriously (I just didnt know what to put for the title). My real question was should i still try to find a full set of my old irons or try some others similar to it?

You should find what works for your swing. The only way to do this is by testing clubs.

Boy the feeling of puring a blade is the best. That's why I play with forged blades.
