Ok, so i went to the range today, and finally found my grip/stance(i've only been played 3 times), here are the distances that I hit my clubs today....I know, they are short, any ideas as to how to increase the distances?

(the higher number is where it would go when my slice didn't play in)
Driver: 200-250

You could move to Denver… that will add anywhere from 10-20 yards to your shots.

Compressing the ball is the key to distance.

Your distances compare pretty well to mine so I guess I'm the wrong guy to ask. I will say this however.... don't dwell on it. Getting the ball in play is far more important. Hitting a 280 yd drive is not much good if you are not hitting fairways. For me, I'm a big guy, so it's hard for me to get a good shoulder turn. I also had a wrist injury when I was younger so my wrist strength is not too strong. That's something I plan to work on.

I'm interested in the quote above. I've been researching compression lately and most of what I've been finding states that compression has little or nothing to do with distance. Can anyone enlighten me or point me towards a good article on the subject. I've been experimenting with different compression balls but as yet, have not notice much, if any, differences in distance.

Getting a few lessons go a long way to helping with distance and consistency, but there are a few quick fixes. I've found that using better quality balls really makes a big difference. Also, if you are using clubs with stiff shafts, consider picking up some regular shafted clubs.

I’m sorry…Let me clarify my statement regarding compression.

While certain makes and models of golf balls are designed for greater distance off the tee – this is not what I meant when I mentioned compressing the ball. Compression (compressing the ball) has to do with the position of your hands, shaft, and club face at impact.

Yeah, after reading Five Lessons, I think the problem is I'm not exploding w/ my hips, I am using all arms/shoulders which is cutting away from power and clubhead speed. I will find out tomorrow when i hit the course :)

The biggest key to hitting the ball far is to make ball contact first and then take a divot(with your irons). If you do that the ball will rocket off the clubface, even with an average swing speed.

You are average or longer when compared to the guys that I normally play with. And you have only played 3 times (they have been playing for years).

Lessons would be great I would think. But you are doing OK.

    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.

    • I have been on a roll in November. Today was a 77 (69.2/115, 6,050 yards) on a wet course with dew covered bumpy greens. Better greens and I might have shaved a few more strokes off the score.
