I've been having a bit of trouble lately with focus and concentration and I'm hoping some of the more competitive golfers here can help me.

I haven't played a lot of competitive golf recently and most of my rounds have been either work related tournaments or rounds with friends. While I think I always try to play my best I've noticed that my "enjoyment" rounds aren't anywhere near as low scoring as my league rounds.

This is the first year I've ever played in a league and I've notice on nights when I really work hard at focusing I play much better. The problem is I seem to have a lot of trouble turning it on and bearing down.

What do the other competitive golfers out there do to make sure they're putting maximum effort into each shot?

Playing in scrambles and giggles golf events can cause you to go for hero shots. Over the years, I've learned, don't fall for doing that. Play the same way, every time out. Over swinging or trying low percentage shots can lead to bad results and create doubt in your mind. I try to play the same no matter the importance of the round.

Everyone focuses different and what you put in your body can make a differents too. I personaly try to think of someone out there I am trying to hit the ball too. I am sure you have played pitch with a friend or tried to hit the range cart? You never miss much on either one of those right! As to what I eat in tournaments, it starts days before with lots of water and fruit breakfast. I try not to drink cokes till after I play and I go to bed when im tired not as early as I can, just when I get tired. On the course lots of water and I try to eat fruit to keep my sugar at a flat level, eating apple or banna every three holes. On the back nine I usally eat a peanut butter sandwhich for my brain and lasting entergy about the 13th tee.

Everyone focuses

WHAT?

This is the most fantastic piece of gibberish I’ve come across in a long time – I mean – there are syphilitic monkeys that make more sense.

Well, I've established a few things with this post...

1. You have no grasp of the English language. 2. You have the weirdest philosophy to the game of golf. To the OP: I have a similar focus sometimes my mind wonders when I'm in the tournament. I'm currently trying to think less about score; more about each shot. Visualizing each shot, and COMMITTING to each shot. I'll take my time and ignore my playing partners now as oppose to rushing into something I'm not real sure is the best play for me. This seems to help a little bit.

I realize that I shouldn’t criticize without offering some form of advice.

For focus: Ginkgo Biloba

Before you read this, understand that I have some psychopathic tendencies… so this might not be for you and your game.

Unless I am playing a practice round (which I play by myself), every round is a competitive tournament round (even if I’m not playing in an actual tournament). The only words my playing partners will hear from me during the round are on the first hole, “Hi, my name is Christopher,” and on the last hole, “Thank you – good round.”

For me, focus is about being solipsistic (meaning – I am the only verifiable thing in a universe of things). Golf is an endurance test. It’s eighteen holes of attrition. I exist in my own little world while I play golf.

Wow! I think my use of the English language/spelling compaired to what you think you know are leaps and bounds. I could careless to what you have to make fun of people about, this is a golf forum and the OP asked a question. If you have a problem with that PM Management, I'm sure they will change the whole forum to revlove around your thoughts. Thats why people don't like posting on what they want to know or think they know, because people like you make it a bad experience for everyone else. Grow up, or I will contact a MOD myself.

LOL. Are you serious, man? My point was that you could at least make the post more readable so A. It made more sense and B. It was easier for everyone to read!

I've never heard someone say "I am sure you have played pitch with a friend or tried to hit the range cart? You never miss much on either one of those right!" and suggest that's how he approaches hitting shots in a tournament. I just found this be an odd approach. I wasn't "making fun of you" for it.

I was.

Go ahead, you can call the MOD... I built his condo.

WHAT?

I had no problem understanding his post. No need to insult him with the syphilitic monkeys. Animals don't have syphilis FYI.

To the OP, set a goal for as to what you want to shoot that hole/round and what you can improve on that hole. Working towards goal always helps you focus and puts the pressure on to make a great shot.

Sorry if I miss-understood you then, usaly when someone starts talking about others English, one would take it as that way. As for what I was saying about focus thats the way that I go about it, of course I zone in to a smaller area but hitting chips to your friend back and forth either hardly miss and its fun, as for the range cart do you miss it by a lot or just a little? Its all about making it fun, been there done the stuck up im trying to focus don't talk to me thing on tour. Play better when your having fun to much focus can lead to tention.
