Stupid question that I was asked and did not have any idea.
Our club has Black-Blue-White-Grey-Black and Red

Someone asked me which Tees do the ladies play and which tees do the Seniors play (or I guess what would be the equivalent at our club)

.......................or is it simply based on distances

Tour place the tees - they probably don't correspond to the 'normal' color tees. Some holes they may be in the black position, some holes the blue or white...

From lpga.com: "The average yardage for an LPGA Tour golf course is between 6,200 and 6,400 yards." Which corresponds to, maybe, blue tees for most courses?

I thought it was one up from the tips for Seniors and LPGA. I could be wrong though.

The Women's US Open at Cherry Hills was played from a hair longer than the standard WHITE tees (about 6500 yards at altitude) at Cherry Hills, though they shortened one par 5 (460 yards, at altitude) to a par 4 to make a par 71. They have gold, blue, white, and red there, for reference, with the tips being about 7200 yards. Unfortunately, it's considered too short for the men's tournaments anymore, though the Seniors could play it from the tips.

The junior tournament I played there played from the blue tees (about 300 yards longer than the women's open), but one higher par. I don't have any first hand experience with any other tournament courses, but the mens tour plays around 7100 yards, the seniors about 6900 yards and the women around 6300 yards. Add 10% for Denver altitude. To match the length of Bethpage, a course in Denver would have to measure almost 8000 yards. There are a few of those, BTW. 7600 yards is a more common "championship" tees measurement. The Senior Open in Denver will measure just short of 7300 yards by comparison, at altitude. So... Comparing US open distance at courses in Denver: Men: 7900 Senior: 7300 Women: 6500 Removing 10% (for sea level distance) Men: 7300 Senior: 6700 Women: 6000 No idea how accurate that is. I'm just going off what I could find of local US open courses from the web.

They've played several tournaments at about 6600 yards IIRC. The McDonald's LPGA Championship was 6600+, I believe.

6400 is on the low end these days, and 6000? No...
