Best Driver and Irons

Ok so i expect some goof arguements to come from this but in your opinion, what is currently the best driver for the recreational player on the market. As a bonus, what is the best iron set availible..... Callaway, Taylor Made, PING, Nike, Clevland, Titlelist?

I know everyone has to use a PROV1 golf ball, and a Scotty Cameron putter.

Not from what I've seen. The club market seems pretty fragmented, with all the companies you've mentioned plus more having their fair share of fans. But, with no mention of price or details in what you're looking for, how could someone even take a guess? Heck, I'm a beginning recreational player and I don't even

have a driver, spending that money on lessons instead and getting buy with my irons and 3-wood. I will say this - if you are a left-handed golfer living in Boise, ID looking for a set of irons and you need to keep the budget well south of $300, then Adams iron sets might be considered "best". But, if your circumstances differ, other manufacturers to consider are: Callaway, Taylor Made, PING, Nike, Clevland, Titlelist, Nikent, Tommy Armour, etc... But, that's a good thing for us consumers - lots of options and competition.

The company that seems to survive, somehow, without huge marketing budgets. Very good clubs that people can afford. (I've read that the 845 is the best selling iron of all time because of it).

Obviously I am a pathetic old low-tech purest. As I play a round of golf I hate the peace and quite of a course ruined by the "Clank of a tuna-can". It's like what aluminum bats would do to major league baseball.

For both drivers and irons, the best on the market is last years model (it's not like there has suddenly been some great new technology breakthrough ). For driver just find the one you like the look of best and have the shaft shorted to no longer than 45 inches (and perferably 44 inches or less). For the average rec player this will help keep the ball in play a lot more and because shots are more likely to hit the sweet spot they will usually be longer anyway.

As for irons once you have decided on a category (Super Game Improvement, Game Improvement, Player) the majority of the irons within that category are going to be similar. Most of the time it's just about what you prefer the looks and feel of best. The average rec player should probably be using either SGI or GI irons and should look at sets with hybrids that replace at least the 3 and 4 irons.

As far as what is probably the most preferred by 'hackers', I would bet Taylor Made drivers (maybe Nike second) and in SGI irons I would say Adams might be the most popular right now, with Callaway and Taylor Made maybe being most popular with GI irons.
