So I'm in desperate need of a gap wedge. I'm hitting my driver straighter and further than ever before and the past couple weeks I've found myself in an new spot on short par 4's -- I'll have 90-100 yards in to the pin!

So I think about my club selection - my PW is a 110-115 yard club, so I could dial that back. My SW is about a 65-70 yard club at full swing. So I have...what do you call it...a GAP!

My PW is 46* and my SW is 58*. I was thinking of adding a 52* wedge to fill the void. My irons are Titleist 822 OS and they play great, my SW is a Srixon WG-504 and my selection process wasn't the most scientific, but I love the club. I was thinking about going with another Srixon 52* or possibly the ever-popular Titleist Vokey.

So I have a couple questions:

1. Is 52* the right answer, or should I be thinking 54*?
2. I think I want it to be a low-bounce club since its a gap wedge, is that correct?
3. Thoughts/opinions/feelings on the Srixon WG-504 or 706's vs. the Vokey's? Have there been recent changes to the Vokey's that would make a new one a better choice then a good conditioned slightly used one? I'm on a budget but I want to get the right club.

TIA! -Ryan

Agree with the above. 52.08 works great. Bounce doesn't matter much on a 52 degree anyways, but 8 degrees makes it usable in bunkers too. Vokeys are great, but get any you get comfortable with.

I had the exact same gap problem as you and when I bought new wedges, I went ahead and got the set of Adams Tom Watson's which includes a 52.07 gap wedge. I got the 52,56 and 60 for $80 new on Ebay.

I hit it about 85-95 yards and with a Maxfli BlackMax or Pro V1, I can either stop it dead on the green or pull it back a bit.

BTW: what's the deal with the Vokey's I keep reading about? Are the grooves just more aggressive or what? Also, how much do they cost?

They cost the same as other high end wedges like Cleveland, Nike etc. Around 105-125$, depending on where you buy it. They give you lots of spin, but I bought them for the wonderful feel I have with them. There are lots of good wedges on that price from Mizuno, Nike, Cleveland etc., the differences are not huge, any will work great. Titleist has been there for a long time and without a doubt make some top notch clubs.

I would recommend, since you will use it for full distance strokes, that you should seek a GW as similar as possible to your PW.

Please don´t swing while I´m talking !!

I had a similar problem with a gap in my wedges, however, my situation was a little different because I had a 60* and a 56*, so the obvious choice was a 52*. I think having the wedges in 4* incrimients will ensure consistent yardage spacing, or any other consistent incriminet.
