Okay my title is a very lame play on words.. please forgive that. Anyways, just thought I'd tell all you good folks that I was chipping and putting at the local practice facility and wanted to get some good practice out of good ol' Texas heavy rough. So, I go to a spot under a nice shady tree and a brown snake rustles from out the tree and sliters past my feet very fast to a neighboring field. I screamed like a 7 year old girl! Specifically I think I said 'EEEEEEEEEEkkkk!!!' I don't think the snake was venomous, and it seems he got scared and wanted to run away from me. I think I should work on hitting more fairways, you know just incase snakes lurk in every rough on every course.

i golfed at a resort in British Columbia, where the rattlers were like common people
if i missed the rough, i just left the ball, no way i was gonna get bit by one of those bastards

a couple of months ago, i was on the second tee at the local course, waiting on a threesome in front of me to finish on the green (it's a par 3). i ended up waiting a little less than five minutes, just taking practice swings occasionally, and as they were moving off the green, i just happened to glance behind me and maybe five paces away is a cottonmouth at least three, if not four feet long, coiled up on the bank of the pond next to me. i moved my ball to the other side of the box and re-teed, haha, but i was still jittery as i swung, thinking the snake would suddenly come slithering after me as soon as i swung back.

another time, i was playing the tips at a different course, and on the black box, coiled up right in the middle of the tees, was another big snake that i didn't get close enough to identify - i just moved on up to the white tees for that particular hole.

then, at that same course, on that same hole as a matter of fact, i hit my tee shot into the fairway, drove up, and discovered my ball sitting next to the biggest f'n snapping turtle i've ever seen. i tried to reach out with my club and roll my ball away from it, and it snapped at my club! gotta love course critters.

played a course recently and before the first hole a staff member said "if you hit your balls in the tall grass/weed area and go looking for it bring a club, you may need it if you run into a snake"
