So I was playing a nice game at my home course the other day and found out that if I play in a certain state of mind, where I don’t think about anything when I hit the ball, and I mean nothing, my body tends to free up and relax and my subconscious mind, or non thinking mind, takes over and hits the ball right to my target effortlessly, but I can only get to that state of mind, "the zone" about 5 % of the time, if anyone’s got any tips on how to get there at least even 50% of the time please let me know, thanks so much!

Lol, you have to be thinking. But that is a good thing to do is clear your mind. A book I am reading(thanks to CarlSpackler for the recommendation) is Zen Golf. It really helps you do that, and gives you good drill things? to practice.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

I practicing emptying my mind. Down to thinking only of the target and how I want the ball to get there. A pre-shot routine I suppose. (I've really been slacking off in this department lately, maybe that's why I'm not really firing with my approach shots lately?) Anyway, Build a pre-shot routine that involves some practice swings and visualization. The more you practice this in repetition, the more you'll be able to concentrate. At least that's what I think.

Focus on a single detail in my swing. I know I can play well if I don't overthink things. By only thinking about one detail in my swing, everything else will fall into place. I take my time choosing the right club, finding the proper alignment and where I want to hit the ball. After that, I take my club and swing away.

    • I've been Playing Golf for: 40 yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 4.0 factor My typical ball flight is: Straight however sometimes slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
