Have any of the posters ever experienced a Rib Injury / Fracture / Strain -- etc.

I am going on 5 weeks without golf. Anyone care to share their experience and frustrations?

So was it just a body turn or did someone hit you with a club/ and or ball?

Are they hurt or broken?

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

I have seen two doc's. One said Intercostal Muscle Strain. Another one said Costalchondritis. I have had 1 xray. Nothing is broke but I believe it could be a hairline fracture. I just started back playing in April. Shooting 100. I had been going to the range everday during lunch and hitting balls to improve my game. I overdid it.

that's never happened to me but I fell asleep at the beach once for an entire day and woke up with the worst sunburn ever everywhere. I couldn't move for 1 week, play golf for nearly 2. It was bad.

Intercostal Muscle Strain

I had this happen to me earlier this year and I have to say it was the most painful and frustrating thing I've ever been through. I have a new found respect for football players who get turf toe.

I couldn't take a swing for about 5 weeks. The frustrating part was that I strained them playing golf and I did it such a way that the only time it hurt was swinging a club and sleeping.

I can't point to a specific moment I hurt myself. I was a little sore one day and hit on the range the following day. That night I woke up in intense pain and stayed that way the next five weeks.

I started feeling better and slowly worked my way back into playing everyday over the next few weeks.

Good luck and whatever you do. Don't come back to soon.

Last year I was carrying a six pack of diet coke into the house, tripped and fell onto the cans with my chest. I ended up separating a rib. Thats where the rib rips off the cartilage that connects it to your breastbone.

It made golf nearly impossible for weeks. At the same time though, it caused me to really slow down my swing and I think in the end it improved my game. Before I was really trying to kill the ball, something the rib injury didn't let me do.

    • Hole 6, you need to hit a 240 ish slight draw. I decided to flight a hybrid. I made the perfect length backswing, I swung down better, and I kept my arms in front of my chest in the finish with a 3/4 finish.  The ball didn’t get to the tree tops, flighted push draw. I really felt that stretch of the club pulling me up into the finish.  2nd is the next shot, a 70 yard waist to waist distance 52 degree wedge that landed 3 yards short of pin high and one hop stop pin high. Nippy. 😁
    • Shot a 42. Got to making 1/2 to 3/4 my normal swing. Much better tonight. Should have been a few strokes lower. I blades a pitch shot on hole 1. Didn’t get width. Tried to make a 3/4 swing on a par five, but hit it full swing because my 3/4 is a full swing. A 8 iron went 180 yards and hit the cart path over the green into the lateral hazard. 😳
    • All of these things are possible. Couple of things to bear in mind in particular with regard to Sasho's point about a club flying out of the hands. First of all, even though a driver might have about 100lbs of force on the hands at impact at 110mph or whatever it is, most people have two hands on the club at that point (Vijay excepted, but I'm guessing his front hand was strong enough to hang on on its own), so 50 lbs per hand would be sufficient to hang on to that. Second, grips are also tapered, which helps quite a bit and they're sticky, which also helps. It seems unlikely that grip strength limits clubhead speed because the club might come flying out of your hands, but it's possible that your brain is holding you back because it knows (or thinks) it'll be uncomfortable. I would note that on occasion, I have hit drivers well off the toe or heel and the club twists in my hands as a result. That's unpleasant and I obviously try to avoid that. Subconsciously, perhaps my mind is thinking I might do that with a faster swing, so it limits my speed somewhat.  In short, while there are high schoolers with 120 mph club head speed, I think that's quite a ways from the norm and if their grip was stronger, perhaps they'd be at 125 mph. I don't think high grip strength generates speed. If there is something there, it is much more likely that low grip strength saps speed.
    • And he was wearing it so it looked like it shrunk in the wash! I am also cheering for Rory.
    • I turned it off in the first five minutes. His weight was way on the heels at setup. Even I know that’s not a good setup.
