Hello all,

I was playing in a Tourney Saturday; I took a swing with my 9 iron and the head flew right off... I had been thinking about getting new irons for a bit, and this has kind of got me thinking a bit more seriously...

I am currently using Nike Ignite irons.

I had looked at the 09 Taylormade Burners as well as the Callaway X22's.

What are your thoughts/recommendations on a good set? Or should I just keep using my Nike's...

Also, how do you typically go about making your decision on what to buy? Is there someplace local that lets you swing the club?

Thanks!

If you want to spend the money, go for it. Just go to local golf retailers and try out everything you can. I really liked the X-22's. New clubs won't make you any better than you are, but they are fun to have.

Understood, however when I hit the X22's I felt they were more forgiving than my Nike's..

That's not true at all...

New and clubs that are fitted for your game/skill level can certainly make a difference. Yeah, you may not go to the Tour because you got a set that's fitted to you, but you can certainly strike the ball better, and because golf is so much mental, it will give you more confidence. I really like the Callaway X-18's and X-22's. They are really nice clubs. Maybe try the Taylor Made R7's as well.

I've only hit the X-22 Tours and they are fantastic as long as I can get past the look and price. Not a real fan of the design in the back or the thick topline.

If it were me I would look for the style or club you like and then look at last years models clubs. There is not major difference in one year and if you get fitted it really doesn't matter what clubs are in your hands. Try and find the x20s and save some money and get fitted for them. Example, I wanted the matching cobra 3 wood to match my driver and plus i love my driver but I found it rediculous to spend nearly $200 for a 3 wood, now I can buy it for $110 brand new and even cheaper used or on ebay.

Unless his current clubs are so out of whack(ie +2 3up and the guy is 5'5"), simply getting fitted and buying new clubs will not magically improve his striking ability.

Sorry, but I'm siding with CG031 here. Even a small change can make an improvement. CG didn't say how much - he just said they could help.
