Yesterday, after tons and tons of practices on my drives, I was hitting 275+ consistently, and I made probably 12 or 13 GIR due to drive and iron improvements. But strange enough, I shot a 105, 54 on the front, 51 on the back. But I had somewhere near 49 putts. That's ridiculous. I had an eagle putt on a downhill tee shot par 5, where I ended up hitting my drive around 320, 330 after the roll. I had a 7 iron to the green, and was putting for eagle, and barely pulled out par. And on a par 4, I basically drove the green, with a 30 chip leaving it around 20 footer for birdie, and I left it short.

Any ideas on how to improve my putting to stop leaving it short, and start hitting them closer to the hole?

49 putts is out of this world bad...

my guess is that you need some serious work on your speed.

Stand over the ball and look down on it and swing with the shoulders. If you do not stand over the ball where your eyes meet with it your not gonna get a good line and if you dont putt with your shoulders your not gonna get accurate speed

I don't know how, but yesterday, I didn't have a single one putt, I had I believe 11 3 putts, 1 4 putt, and 6 2 putts.

So do the shoulders control the speed since it's a pendulum motion? Is it possible my shaft is too long, since I like to have an arched back rather than a straight up and down like my dad putts?

Do you hit the ground before you hit the ball often? If you do then the shaft might be too long.

I've been struggling with my distance lately but I've been concentrating on making sure I follow through the same distance as I take the putter back and it's really helped, I've putted really well the last couple of rounds.

Distance control is the most important aspect to putting and will help eliminate 3 putts.

1) practice lag putting from 20 feet so that you can putt 5 balls within a two foot circle
2) judge distance with the length of your backswing and forward swing
3) keep the same tempo on all your putts
4) your foot position can help you judge the distance of your distance putt for example,
a) 3 foot putt = taking the putter back to the inside of your back foot and stroking the putt the same distance forward to judge the 3 foot putt
b) 10 foot putt = taking the putter back just outside your back foot.
c) of course how far you putt depends on your own putting stroke but this helps you judge the distance of certain length putts.

practice and more practice. 90% of your daily practice should be on distance control putting.

    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
