Was wonderig if my poor performace off the tee box was due to my lack of an oversized driver. Right now I use a Dunlop 1 wood and almost always top or slice it REAL bad. Will an oversize help my Ungodly lack of skill off the tee box? Should I get an anti slice one?

Thanks,
Mike :]

It will not magically let you hit 300 yards off the tee, but with all the technology in the new drivers it will certainly help you.
At least when you have a new driver and still drive bad, you'll know it's your fault not the driver's.

NO, an oversized driver will not help a poor swing. If you're badly slicing and topping the ball ....... spend the money on lessons! The manufacturers try to make you think that all these latest/greatest drivers will cure your bad swing.....sorry, doesn't work that way. If you have a somewhat repeatable, consistent swing, then these new drivers can possibly help.

If you are topping or slicing really badly then a new driver of whatever size and design is not going to help much (and probably not at all). Best thing to do is spend 1/4 the price of a new driver and get a lesson or more. I know it's seldom what people want to hear, but the truth is a bad swing is not going to be fixed by equipment but can be by lessons and good practice. A lesson or two is probably not going to suddenly turn you into a scratch golfer, but it will help you identify what flaws are causing you the biggest issues and provide you with some information and drills to help you correct these issues. If anything a new driver may make things worse because they very well could cause those same problems to be magnafied.

Thanks guys. Not really what I wanted to hear, but I know it's the truth. The only thing is, I really only slice my driver. I never slice irons and seldomly woods. I have a decent swing, but I seem to top it cause my clubs are too short. I'm sure I could use lessons, but idk what they are going to tell me. Haha I like the way I'm playing, I'm just bad in general off the tee box.

MacMike

I went through a period where I didn't play the driver for about four years. I tried and bought a few different drivers and no luck. I could still shoot a decent score without it but I knew I was giving away a few strokes. I was hitting my irons well and I wasn't about to have some local golf pro change my entire swing, nor did I have the time. So I spent a little time on a simulator over the winter and now I can't wait to hit it. I also hit my irons better than ever. I get in a slump every now and then but I can usually fix my problems a lot faster now. For me it was a pull hook and a deadly one at that. Now it's a draw.

The technology is out there specifically to help newcomers, or people who aren't as skilled as Tour Pro's...It can benefit everyone, but especially those who are used to something that is inferior of technology/equipment.

Go get fitted for one of the new drivers out there, it will make a big difference on distance and accuarcy.

You can get a "low price" 460 driver at dicks or something, it will help but not cure the problem. I couldn't hit my old dunlop woods I was grandfathered for the life of me. See what you can do at a swing monitor at a cheap 460 driver.

Get a used one pretty cheap. If you have a golfsmith check it out. Look at Golf Digest Hotlist for previous years or for the <$350: http://www.golfdigest.com/equipment/...?currentPage=5

Scope those, see if there are any you like and see if you can find it used! or maybe check previous years hot list. You can get a quality driver without breaking the bank.

It will help you a little bit, because it has a bigger face and so it is more forgiving. I had an old ghetto wilson driver, and I could never hit it very well ( sliced it) or get good distance (due to the slice and the lack of oversize). I upgraded to a used Tayloremade R7 Limited for $110 at Golfsmith and it's helped me out quite a bit.

    • The draft is kind of a crap shoot anyway. It’s a guess whether a player is really going to bloom in the pros. It reminds me of those kids I went to college with who were high class rank and 800/800 SATs and flunked out freshman year. College FB is a lot different than the NFL.

    • I have to confess. I figured somebody would grab Sanders in the second round. He isn't perfect by any stretch, but so often NFL teams reach for quarterbacks.  I only saw one Colorado Game last year and I watched it in a restaurant/pub/bar place. I have to say I thought Sanders was good. He looked accurate and his O-line was terrible. ... I mean really terrible. Kid was running for his life the second he got the ball in his hands. My thought is that quarterbacks who play behind bad O-lines in college sometimes may make better pros. They get used to having to make quick decisions, and throwing the ball with guys in their face.  A lot of folks are saying his slide is because of his dad. I'm not sure if that's true or not true. I've also heard that next year's crop of QB's is supposed to be really good, so teams feel like "Hey, let's wait until next year."
