I'm thinking of sending my studio style back to Scotty's custom shop and I was wondering if anyone here used the service. I've looked over the usual, stamps and lines and grips... but can you get the putter with a color filled in (ie the dots, titleist, scotty cameron...) I want to match my grip, headcover and paint on the putter

http://thesandtrap.com/ I feel like a broken record pointing out that we have a site with articles on it... specifically this one . Obviously, some others may respond to you here... but my response is "read that article for my response"

That'll look nice..won't be as much as a restore.

DDBowdoin,

It's very easy (and significantly cheaper) to change paintfill yourself with a bottle of acetone (nail polish remover), some Testors model paint from the Hobby Store, a couple of brushes and toothpicks. Do it yourself, and play some golf with the $50-$100 you're saving. Scotty's Shop is a waste if you just want to change paintfills.

thats a really good point actually... I like that, I'll see how I feel about doing it myself

cantputt,

You really can't mess up paintfilling, give it a shot, it's very easy to do and I think you'll like the results. Just use an acetone soaked rag to remove the paintfill in there now, brush on some paintfill over the area, and then use a clean acetone soaked rag to wipe off the excess, easy as pie.

so you wouldnt spend time finely painting in the fill, you're suggesting a general swap of the area and then clean outside of fill area?

I gotcha covered right here http://www.cameroncollector.com/foru...pic,184.0.html this is a site that is very informational about scotty camerons. This link is a step by step process of how to change a paintfill, can it get any easier?

It was after reading Erik's review thatI decided on buying an older Mil Spec and getting it sent straight to the Custom Shop, it's costing me a lot of money as the NZ Dollar to US Dollar rate is not so good, but it'll be well worth it. As soon as I receive the putter back I'll post some pictures.

Sent my Scotty Cameron 2005 Newport 2 off to the Custom Shop on the 14th of July. Came back to me via FedEx today. WOW!!! I didnt have it restored because it is only a year old, but I had it customized. It looks so good. My first name is Scott, so the "Scotty" on the neck is more than just a brand to me. My last name is Limeberry, so of course I went w/ the lime green head cover, grip, and lime green and white paintfill. They added a sight circle on top to go w/ the sight line on the flange, my initials in dancing letters, and an "S" w/ a crown over it. They painted the newport dots, lines, lettering white and lime. Very cool. I shipped it off about 2 weeks ago. They received it on the 17th and I had it back in my hands 11 days later. Some people have commented on this thread about the price. It was expensive. The putter cost me $300.00 a year or so ago, and the work the studio did was another $200.00, but it was well worth it. I wouldn't want to risk damaging or screwing up such a nice putter trying to do it myself. My putter was sweet before, but now it really stands out, reflects my personality, and will be something that I will keep forever. You can't put a price on that. Highly recommended.

I'm sending my Circa 62 No.1 off today just for the "S" stamp and my initials in the Gold / Yellow paintfill. Nothing more. Another $60.00. Well worth having such a beautiful putter customized. They are leaving everything else (grip, head cover, etc.) the way it is. Should get it back in exactly two weeks. Can't wait.

My Newport Two Pro Platinum is on its way to Scotty's for a restoration, custom paintfill and stamping, and COA. A little over $200, but seeing as how I paid $50 for the putter, it's a no-lose situation. The restoration jobs take over a month though... it's gonna be a tough wait.

I have a SSS Newport Beach that I sent in for a sight dot and initials (actually, my name). Am awaiting return of a Circa 62 No. 3 I'm having refinished in pro platinum with new paint, name, shaft, grip and headcover. It's expensive, but the work is impressive and it's nice to have a unique putter in your arsenal. I bought a second No. 3 just so I wouldn't have to give up my gamer for 40 days... so when the new one comes in... the new "backup" will go out for a similar treatment. I like this putter immensely... so two is not too many.

Send some pictures when you get that circa back. I'm thinking of having the same thing done.

Hey guys, can you post some pictures here once they get back, I'll do the same with my Mil-Spec when it gets back.

Unfortunately for me, it's costing around $600 NZD all up - but is SO going to be worth it.

You can get up to two colors out of the options of colors they offer. I've used the service to refurbish my Scotty's before and I highly recommend it. Def. worth it.

I want to get my Scotty cameron customized, I was wondering whether it would be smarter to send it to the custom shop or try and do it at home? I have a studio style newport any opinions would be nice

    • So I am aware that "the committee is allowed to set its own standards of player conduct in a code of conduct adopted as a local rule" (rule 1.2b) I also understand that there are some aspects that are allowed to be entered, and some that are not allowed.  My question specifically is: In which form does this code of conduct need to be available? Is it enough for someone to say "that's part of our code of conduct", or is it a requirement, that the code of conduct is in written form? Also, is there a need that the local rule points to the code of conduct in any way?   For better understanding: I'm playing competition and the next course that we play has a "no smoking policy". I don't have a problem with it, as I don't smoke anyway, but one of my team-mates does, and someone told him "You'll get disqualified if you smoke on the course".   Now I have looked at their local rules and there is no reference to a "code of conduct". I'm not sure if they even have an official "code of conduct" that states that smoking is not allowed.   I fully agree that he SHOULD respect this request from the club, but I am wondering if the club would really be allowed to DQ this player for this, if it's not properly documented in their local rules/code of conduct?  This is an official national amateur tournament, so not just something organized by a club for its members.
    • A few months back I purchased the following swing aid on Amazon ($130). It is solidly made of steel and heavy and stable in use. I use it both at the range and at home. Swing Plate Dual PRO by Jamie Brittain - Swing Analyzer Aid - Fits Standard 8mm Alignment Rod Sticks - Teaching Swing Plane Perfector - Indoor/Outdoor Golfing Practice. This winter I set a goal for myself to improve my backswing/downswing to be more consistent and on plane. I had a two way miss with my approach shots this past golf season. I have a hitting set-up in my garage, but I needed something to provide feedback while swinging the club. I came across the Swing Plate while browsing YouTube.   I set it up with the correct angles for my 8 iron. I started out with just the back rod in place, which prevents me from getting too far inside on the backswing. Started out slow and as I got comfortable increased my swing speed. Now I also came across a YouTube video on building a better backswing and getting more width in the backswing and added that to my practice. That video is here:    This video is a bit wordy since you are basically a fly on the wall as Ian gets a lesson. It took a few replays to be able to get the substance of the instruction. It was well worth the effort. Over the last two weeks I have been able to get out on the course and gauge how successful my practice has been. Overall, my consistency with approach shots has improved greatly. Incorporating the added width in my swing has also added a few yards to all my clubs.  What has your off-season training been like?
