I have an issue where I fan balls out to the right - sometimes severely - sometime it so sever that I can't even tell if it's a shank or not. This happens only with my irons.
After a very frusterating day of a 11 fairways hit and a 91 carded I went to the range and tried to figure some stuff out.
I would like to share what I think I figured out - please give me advice let me know if this sounds right or wrong etc... obviously I don't have a swing to post so i realize this is a little blind.

I am right handed player (although a lefty)
Basically in an effort to improve distance etc.. I some how seem to have gotton so focused on my hips leading that my right hip seems to thrust out a little and it forces my hands and thus swing path outside forcing me to best case open the face and worst case bring the hosel into play.
What I did to stop this was just transfer the weight to my left and let my arms do the rest - is this right?? I hit the ball better but it does feel like more of an arms swing which is what concerns me a little. so basically my hips turn slightly - my weight shifts to the left and then my arms drop so that when i hit the ball instead of my hips being totally clear and facing the target at impact they are facing the ball a little more. they don't stop totally - rather just move first then the arms swing down and hit the ball and the hips continue thru after or during (hard to tell)
I finish with my weight left which is right - but I am just asking if this seems like correct timing
I looked at KJ choi and Sean Ohair on swing vision and this seems to be what they do. Weight shifts - hips square back to the ball and the arms come down -
any thoughts??
shanks and iron mishits are driving me nuts!
thanks!

    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
