I have been trying to develop more consistent contact with my iron swing and need some advice. I am 6'2" and play with an off the rack set of Titleist 735.cm irons. Even thought I am taller than the standard golfer (i'm told most clubs are built for a 5'10" golfer), I like to have a wide and low stance. When you couple my low stance with my long arms, the toe of my club sticks much too high off the dirt. My swing is much more consistent with my hands low to the ground. Should I try to get a more normal upright stance or have my irons adjusted? What are the problems with a low hand position? This is a recent change I have made so now is the time to adjust one way or the other.

Thanks.

I am 6foot 2 and i have irons that are 3* upright (ping measuring scale - so 3 degrees upright compared to the ave. lie of ping irons. ) though i suggest you get measured up because then they can take into account your stance, and your wrist to floor measurement.

I think getting you lie angle adjust for your swing is probably the best thing to do. If you want to try standing more upright then I would suggest lessons to help the transition easier for you. Adjusting the lie to fit your swing is an easy thing to have done (and usually pretty cheap). I'm 6' 1" and have my irons 2* upright and it made a huge difference. I had been playing standard lie clubs for years and had a tendency to catch the toe a lot because of it. I guess ideally you could take a lesson (or more) to get your stance set then get your clubs fit for that stance and swing.
