Hi, this is one of my first thread's on this forum after lot's of research by utilizing the search function, excellent information!

The reason I'm starting a new thread is to see what everyone thinks i'll need to round off my set. I actually just bought my first used set of clubs from 3balls on Ebay: 2006 Callaway Big Bertha's 3-PW in "very good condition" and a used Cleveland HiBore Monster XLS Draw 10.5* Driver in "fine" condition.

Apart from the putter and bag I'll need to buy, I've been thinking I might need the following:

1) Some wedge's, not exactly sure which one's i'll need though, probably a SW and maybe a LW?
2) Woods? I was thinking maybe a 3 wood to fill the gap between the driver and the irons?
3) Hybrid? Maybe one that has like a 18* or 19* loft? I guess the question is do I really need both a wood and a Hybrid?

Here is how I would set up your bag from here. Hope this helps. Just my opinion, however.

Driver - Cleveland Monster XLS Draw 10.5*
3 Wood - Whatever you choose.
19* Hybrid - Whatever you choose.
3-PW - '06 Callaway Big Bertha's
GW - Whatever you choose (52*)
SW Whatever you choose (56*)

That'd be my best advice.

Driver Ping G10 10.5*
Hybrids Ping G5 (3) 19* Bridgestone J36 (4) 22*
Irons Mizuno MP-57 5-PW
Wedges Srixon WG-504 52.08 Bridgestone WC Copper 56.13
Putter 33" Scotty Cameron Studio Select #2

The best way to figure this out is to look at yardages. NOw I don't know how far you hit a golf club, so I will use some averages to give you an idea

Driver - 250
3iron - 190
pw - 120

You will want to get at least 1 club, possibly 2 to close the gap between your driver and your 3 iron. You will want a sandwedge to help get out of bunkers (higher bounce) and you might want a club to go between your PW and that sandwedge.

But all of that being said, you are pretty new and might not need to get all 14 clubs right now. YOu might fnd that you prefer hybrids vs. fairway woods. YOu might find out that you would rather have an extra wedge, etc.

My recommindations is that you can pick up a putter and a sandwedge and really enjoy the game with those 11 clubs and figure out which other 3 you want to carry down the road.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

There's some good advice here. One option to consider is to wait to fill you bag until you get a better feel for the clubs you have. I would recomend a sand wedge and a 3 wood because those would fill some fairly standard needs. That would leave you two slots, with a hybrid, gap wedge or lob wedge contending for those last two spots. If it were my decision, I would feel more comfortable with a few rounds under my belt with the new clubs before filling those last two slots.

Driver: Taylormade Burner 2008 TP
3 Wood: Adams Insight BUL 3W
7 Wood: Callaway Steelhead III 7W
3 Hybrid Cobra Baffler DWS 3H
Irons: Taylormade RAC LT2 3-pw

Wedges: Taylormade RAC 52*, Cleveland CG14 56* Putter: Taylormade Monza Spider Ball TP Red LDP

Hi, this is one of my first thread's on this forum after lot's of research by utilizing the search function, excellent information!

I just bought a 15* 3-Wood and a 23* 4H...left out the 5-wood and a 2H/3H.

If I need the distance, it's the 3-wood; if I need the accuracy I go for the 4H. For the SW/LW, I recommend the CG14 Wedges!! Hope that helps!

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
