In the begining of the season in like Mid march I brought a Callaway FT-9 tour driver from NY Golf in Long Island.Well several weeks later they start to give away either a wedge or 3 wood for one buck if you buy a driver. So back I go to NY Golf to see what can be worked out.Well the guy says to me "In life timming is everything and you are out of luck"So I go home pisssed off and figure what the hell lets try Callaway customer service.I call and relay the story and the young woman tells me "Fax me the receipt and I will see what I can do".Well yesterday when I got home from the course I have a message on my answering machine telling me I have a new FT--3 wood 15 degree nuetral reg flex on the way from callaway for nothing. And that boys and Girls is why I keep buying Callaway clubs.

Ah! So that extra 50 bucks for the FT's goes to warranty! Of course! it all makes sense now...

Say what you want, they didn't have to do anything. It made a customer happy and I bet he buys their brand again. Sounds like good business to me.

A positive attitude will not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Yeah that is some awesome service, I wish every company was like that!

referral advertising is big. Not only did they earn his future business, they got free advertising on this forum and others that the OP may post on.

A buddy of mine broke his FT-i in anger. Slammed it down and the shaft snapped at the hosel. He called Calllaway and told them what happened, and basically to ask what the flex of the shaft would be/and what the swing weight would be if he were to saw it off where it broke and reinsert it into the FT-i head.

They told him to not bother with that, but to send it in and they'd put a new shaft in for free.

He told them he broke it in anger, and they're replacing the shaft for the cost of shipping.

I love all what I am hearing about Callaway's customer service. It is one of the reasons I purchased X-22's, knowing that even though I was dropping quite a bit of cash, if something happened, I wouldn't be SOL. (I pictures something like my 7-iron club head come flying off on the range. Does that even happen with irons at all? I know it can happen with woods.)

It's also a reason why I keep Callaway up near the top of my list when I look at new clubs.

I am impressed by stories like this, but it also tells me the markup on these clubs vs. the materials and labor cost is incredible. If they can just send a new one out so easily...

The bastards. They're making money off their customers!

That's unbelievable!!
These guys are just amazing. At one point I wouldn't be surprised if someone called them and said "Oh hello Callaway, I love your stuff but right now I have no cash. I am so sad" and they would reply: "No sweat. Send us in your address and we'll send you some irons".

I wonder how are other brands customer service compared to Callaway's?

I never said it was wrong, though I can see how you'd take it that way. If people will pay it (and obviously they will, hell as you can see I have a Callaway driver) then they've done a great job of gaining and maintaining customers through marketing and customer service. Good for them. It is interesting to me - I wonder how much goes toward materials and assembly labor vs. marketing and R&D.;

Yeah i'm interested too. But I kind of think about it like I just received free insurance with my club purchase. That seems to be worth a little bit extra cash to me :)

That's the exact reason I would consider getting X-20s or something instead of Adams or Wilson irons when the time comes. If anything happens, Callaway will probably take care of it. Plus as much as it turns some people off, I like the flashy graphics.

I agree there is a huge mark up on new clubs. I love Callaway's customer service, haven't needed it yet.

$500 driver for $150 a year later. Brand new forged Ben Hogan's originally $700-800 selling for $300 on clearence. Think about the OP how much do you think he payed for that driver ? I'm sure they can afford to give away a 3W or a wedge in the name of customer service.
