Hit so many hooks as I did today!

Lemme explain...

I posted up my video of me swinging and I have been trying to get rid of my over the top swing. Thanks to all you guys and your help, I went out to the range today and just swung nice and easy trying to get that inside out swing.. Flattened my plane by quite a bit and swung from the inside on my downswing.

Well, Ive never been more inconsistent in my life but only one drive sliced!! Thats never happened, even hit a few draws with my 7 iron, and one with my 3 wood. Hit a bunch of hooks, but they were a welcome sign of change..... and my draw driver is pretty much useless now!

So, when trying to work new things into your swing, is it common to completely suck??

Im very consistent with over the top swings but I was not even close to consistent today. Is this normal? How long does it usually take for changes to take effect?

Its weird trying to get that lag and to release your hands at just the right time, but cant wait to work on it some more and post some more vids, thanks for all your help guys!

Jim

i would think it would be normal to not be as consistent right after you change something but i dont know how long it should take to get back to where you were with the new swing

Yea it takes awhile to not suck. When I first started, I felt like a developed a "new and improved swing" about once a week. Since my early days I've settled down into a decent swing after so much revision. I remember it would take me a bucket of balls or a round of golf to actually settle into my new swing, then it would all change in a week. Those were the days when I was happy with consistent double bogeys.

Dude....you've got a great swing.

Stay with the game and I suspect you'll be one of the best ballstrikers in your groups, leagues, work group, etc.

You are gonna be generating a ton of clubhead speed. You are on plane and remain so throughout your swing. Once you get that swing angle optimized......OMG.....it's gonna soar outa the park.

Your enthusiam for the game is cool....it reminds me of how I embraced the game when I first started playing (I was in my mid 20's).

Thanks a lot for that post man, keeps me going! Im in my mid 20's now, so hopefully I'll stick with it and hopefully get really good at this game. I really enjoy playing!

Thanks again for the ego boosting words! Jim

Yeah, I have to follow up on what Dubz posted.

You do have a very nice swing for someone who is fairly new to the game. It is pretty fundamentally sound and certainly something you can build on and should only get better as you learn more about your swing.

I was shocked to see you were a 25 handicapper with that swing...

I stress spending most of your time on the wedge, short game and short putting. I think it will really lower your score quick...your ball striking can't be too bad!!!!

Good luck dude.

Yeah, I have to follow up on what Dubz posted.

Hey thanks a lot man! Yea, it sure sucks to be a 25 handicap, I dont think Im that bad really, I just play short courses and my short game sucks. I am definitely gonna be working on 100 yards and in, and *hopefully* drop that handicap!

Thanks for the encouraging words though, totally appreciate it! Jim

    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
