Ball speed is a function of not only pre-impact but also post-impact clubhead velocity. Straight from the pages of TGM.

The intent must be to hold shaft flex (acceleration) until well after impact therefore maximizing ball compression.

I could not even finish the original post... Too Much Information. You take the club back and swing it to the target. You can't be thinking about anything else at the time. Forget he physics and hit the damn ball.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

The TGM statement is correct, but only because the clubhead velocity the instant after impact is directly determined by the clubhead velocity the instant before impact. Impact lasts well under 1 millisecond and during this time somewhere around 1/2 ton of force is applied to the golf ball (re: Cochran and Stobbs 'Search for the Perfect Swing'). Even an XX flex shaft can't apply anything near that amount of force as it just is not strong enough.

If you were to remove the shaft from the club right before impact it would not have much of an effect on the results. BT
