For the last week I have been striping all my irons and tee shots, so I turned more attention to my short game. Yesterday, I went out pretty confident in my game and could not hit a fairway with any club, did not hit one flush iron shot for the front nine (about 10 shanks, with forward advance), only hit 2 GIR for the front nine, and 1 fairway which was a pop up driver. But I chipped in twice from about 20 yards out and only had a total of 10 putts for those nine holes. My irons and driver didn't come around till about 16 but ended up shooting a 79. This round could have been easily in the high 80's to low 90's if it weren't for my short game. Attention to high handicappers: SHORT GAME IS THE KEY TO SCORE LOW!!

It's already blazingly obvious to me. Longest club I can hit remotely straight some of the time is a 4 hybrid. Chunk and skull my irons with reassuring regularity. I put my first 'unplayable' ball into a bird's nest twelve feet off the ground this morning.

Even then, it was at most an extra stroke or two to chip-pitch-putt range, if that. If I can develop any kind of short game, shooting bogey golf seems a short-term realistic goal even -without- improving Chaos Swing.

I have practiced my short game the most out of all my game but when i am hitting driver and company good the short game is normally way better then when i really need it to be good.

They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. Golf is more complicated than that.

I spend most of my time on the practice greens. Don't really goto the golf range often so not much practice goes into irons/woods. I can scramble pretty well for pars and bogeys when my driver decides to not show up for the day.

About 95% of my practice time is dedicated to 100 yards and in. Being able to get up and down changed my game immensely.

Then again, I 3-putted 4......count 'em, FOUR times yesterday and completely stubbed a simple little chip yesterday, and still shot 78 on a long, tough course. I have yet to find a single key to this silly game......I sure wish there was one though.

Although I certainly agree with this, if you have limited time you have to figure out a full swing. I went from outing golf to trying to play regularly. My swing was not a swing at all. All arms.... I took some lessons and I am finally getting close to having a full swing that is correct and repeatable. I don't plan on being a high handicapper for long. The course I play on has a 140+ slope. Too far off the fairway is punishing. There are two courses, one has heather the other woods.

Once I have a full swing that is comfortable and repeatable I will change my strategy. Half a bucket on the range then pitching, chipping and putting. I am looking forward to it! The time I do spend on my short game has helped greatly. I spend a lot of time on the front lawn chipping, I can grab a half hour here and there. My lawn would be considered difficult rough which can't hurt.

In conclusion the short game is the scoring game for sure but it won't help from the heather or the woods.
