Obviously it had been quite a while (39/40) years since the British Open was played at Hoylake. Articles I read prior to the tournament suggested that it was a bit too small and unspectacular. While it didn't present a huge challenge we certainly had an impressive leaderboard all week and record breaking galleries.

You guys think the British Open will return to Hoylake in the next 10 years or will it be another long layoff?

I haven't heard anyone criticize it yet, so I think it'd be a mistake by the R&A; not to bring it back within nine years or so.

Yeah, all the criticism came before the event, but everyone shutup after looking at the leaderboard all week. I'm not a big fan of golfers shredding up major championship venues, but I got over it.

It wasn't my favorite course in the rota, but it held its own for the most part. If the wind blows next time like we have seen in past British Opens, the scores may be half of what they were this past weekend.

Look at it this way: the par 5s were all reachable, so give yourself a birdie on those holes. That's -16, or right where DiMarco finished. Tiger's eagle on a par 4 puts him to -18.

So I don't even think they "shredded" the course, and I think the two closing par 5s, even though it didn't happen that way, could still have added some drama. What if DiMarco had gone eagle-par-eagle? So yeah, I don't quite agree it was shredded, especially as you point out, the wind was down ALL week.

Considering how benign the wind conditions were all week, I thought it held up pretty well. If the wind would have blown, I think the winning score would have been closer to 10 under. It's a quirky venue, but entertaining. I didn't expect like it, but I did.

i am pretty sure the Open Championship will be back to Hoylake soon. The R&A; have to be pleased with the leaderboard and everything else about the tourney (except the phones and paint).

and when it does go back i too hope the weather gets a bit iffy, especially considering all of the internal OB on the course, which barely anyone hit into (minus Adam Scott).

Peter Dawson has already said it's back in the rota.

    • Day 314 - Putting some things together. Better grip/setup, fuller backswing, better finishing position. Filmed some swings, happy with the progress.
    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
